No setup yet. Trying to get Sky Q installed via a communal satellite
My Location
Bristol
Hey, newbie here.

I am trying to get sky Q installed into my apartment via the communal system.

I had sky visit today but they refused to install as the system was unsafe as it had not been grounded properly.

The engineer explained that the satellite had been grounded (via cable in red circle) but I didn’t quite understand what the actual issue is. All I know is he said it was a legal requirement for the building management to sort out.

Any ideas what he’s on about before I go back to my building management?

From the looks of the wire in that photo, he probably can't tell where it connects to a ground at the other end.

Also all the boxes in the system should be grounded together,(daisy chained, one box to the next) and not relying on the coax shield to ground the rest of the system.

It also looks to be a very sloppy install, the boxes should be level, evenly spaced and not looking like a 3rd grader installed them

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Whilst untidy the system does appear to be correctly connected but for a fixed / Quattro satellite system, Freesat or Sky HD.

I would wager the installer that turned up did not have the kit on board to adapt to Q delivery for one apartment , or have the responsibility to earth himself, all items shown have the clamp terminals.
There is also an earthing bar on the far right switch, which could be cut into pieces and linked across all other devices.

(or silently hoped it was Friday afternoon) .

That's a complete abortion of a system. every bit of electrically powered equipment should at the very least be earthed via an earth block to the Main Earth Terminal. You can get away with daisy chain, but it needs to be there and connected even when the equipment is separated. I'd be amazed if that was done by a system installer. Oh, and they're screw on connectors, that's been done by someone who knows very little/nothing about IRS systems.
