I have a Maxview precision 65cm with wideband lnb for sky q when we are away in the caravan, I bought it second hand and added the wideband lnb. I get a good signal but roughly every 15 min I will get picture breakup, I have had the lnb replaced by Maxview and even bought a new dish/bowl as it was a bit bent. I have replaced the cable and tried various hdmi cables. today I ran a power cable the the caravan and turned the power to the van off to see if it was interference from something in the caravan but it still did it(see photo). I have no problems with the box in the house even tried the tv from the van in the house.

sometimes its just pixilation in a small area any ware on the screen but no sound breakup it only lasts for a second and sometimes you can go an hour with no problems.

any ideas for what to try would be greatly appreciated!

You will need to take some pictures of the dish outside and post them here.

Are you sure the breakup is down to the system and not people moving around in the caravan /mobile home ?

Hi, we have only tried it in the caravan 4 times due to the covid lockdown the dish is on a tripod with a 10mtr cable I have been setting it up on the drive to test and it happens even when you are sat down and not moving about. its a touring caravan and and I've added a photo of the dish I have taken the lufc decal off as I thought that might be the problem and this is with the old dish on which had a few dents which i replaced. I've not heard of anybody else with this sort of problem.

Well, unless there's a large parallax error, the LNB appears to be way out of kilter - not aimed at the dish's focal point.

The LNB clamp seems to be twisted where it attaches to the arm. The LNB should be pointing in the same direction as the arm, not way to the left of it. As it is, reception is going to be inefficient.

Apart from the Skew I dont think I can adjust that, I will take some photos tomorrow of how its fitted, I do get a good signal about the same or even better than my home dish. this is the proper Maxview upgrade lnb that I purchased I have thought about getting a different brand of lnb to fit and try.

I think you might find the holder isn't correctly fitted to the arm. Changing the LNB won't correct that.

Holders normally plug-in to the end of the arm and are secured by sprung pins or by a screw/bolt.

Also please take some pictures from dish and LNB from the side.
I wonder if the arm might be hanging too low?

Only thing that strikes me is that the LNB is not skewed as far as I would have expected - if true, that would lead to lower than ideal signal level/quality, but why that would cause repetitive pixelation with such long gaps between does escape me??:confused

Both reflectors have a lot of damage. The replacement may also have a fold in it along the MaxView legend, though I'm looking at a very small screen.

All dings need to be knocked out so the rim is flat on a glass surface.

I had a suspicion that the dish looked a bit damaged but didn't comment because I wasn't at all "certain", and thus waited to see if anyone else would feel the same.

Offset angle measured from height and width of the dish would be about 21 degrees,
from measurement of height and topstring and bottomstring (ratio 180:178:105) it looks like LNB is at about 25.5 degrees offset.
(All with rather rough (distorted?) photo measurements.)

You could try to put the arm a bit higher, at 21 degrees offset, so that the above ratio would become 180:170:105. And then of course adjust dish elevation again, on the new LNB offset position.
If that gives some improvement, we could try actual measurements instead of photo measurements...

Like A33, the arm looked a bit low to me, but, again, waited until someone far more experienced than I might mention that.

OTOH, I can't see how the angle of the arm w.r.t. the dish face can be adjusted easily?

I sometimes get this sort of interference on weak channels when the central heating pump starts. Also I notice the cables going to the LNB look skinny, is there any writing on them indicating manufacturer and type?

The skinny wires are what Maxview supply, I have tried with the cable straight to the lnb and still had the problem.

this sounds likes its above my pay grade! the arm just drops into position from folded and does not appear to have any adjustment

I'm in North Yorkshire and the skew is set at about -13 but when I've been away I have tried it at different settings

Agreed

1) - MANY years ago, the audio output from the very decent (Garrard 400 series) turntable in one of my mate's home Hifi (it was for the time) system would apparently "glitch" from time to time, and I spent a lot of time setting up and checking that T/T, but the problem remained. Can't remember exactly how I finally worked it out, but the cause turned out to be the un-surpressed pump control relay in the house oil-fired c/h system - every time that activated the pump, the audio "glitched".

2 - The cables do look thin, so they are likely some cheap "equivalent" to the relatively small diameter "WF65-type" twin/siamese cable often used to connect SKY (etc) LNBs to a house system because that requires much smaller holes to be drilled in the walls - thus replacement decent "full sized" Webro WF100 cables might help to cure the problem.

Thus, with the experienced and very valued comments from the other members here, it may be one, or a combo of some/all, of the above issues - maybe fixing just one of those might solve the problem, but dealing with all three would probably make even more sure that it won't happen again.

Nothing wrong with wf65, and I've been to a few shotgun weddings.
