Hi,

I have recently reinstalled my skystar2 with progdvb and vplug with latest keys.

All I can unencrypt are a few channels at 1 deg west.

Can someone tell me if this is normal and have the channels on Hotbird etc tightened up their encryption.

If I should be encrypting channels on hotbird, are there any I could try, obviously v-plug is working I'm just confused at the lack of channels.

thanks

Welcome to the forum tech88

Yes essentially that is all that is compromised now and that too will close soon as they are in the middle of a card change, sorry you missed the boat.
Virtually nothing to watch on Hotbird now for some time

thanks for your quick answer. I was wondering if I had something setup incorrectly.

If I want to watch sports on encrypted channels what is the best free method these days.
A sat receiver and update the keys manually.
Card sharing (never tried it)
or these Internet sites that stream football etc (never tried them).

I'm not looking for details but just general views

thanks

ps thanks for the welcome, looks like a good forum

Card shares are the way forward. Theres very little open on keys and patches these days - the heyday of these was 2-3 years ago.

However remember that commercial card shares are risky - you have no idea as to who is behind them, it could easily be Russian drug smugglers, the Sicilian mafia, or even the pay tv companies running a sting operation.

I know its totally OT or rather off forum but is the way forward using these free internet football streaming sites. I've never used one but there must be a catch (or probably quite a few) that I'm yet unaware of.

thanks.

I have never used one personally but reports are that the frame rate is low and quality is often poor.

The technicalities of card sharing can be discussed no problem asking for or offering card shares will lead to a ban

thankyou, yes I would be interested in the technicalities of card-sharing. Is there somewhere I can start, an idiots guide link, perhaps to somewhere on this forum.

I became interested in sattv back in the early 90s mainly wanting to hear sat radio and the various foreign news stations. The sports are really a seperate interest.

In addition to the skystar I still have my trusty ODM-300 quite ancient now. My first sat rx was a Pace-9200, I still use the matching positioner.

Good to hear of a fellow RSD ODM300 owner :)

I cut my digital teeth on that one way back - one of the first DVB STBs, and UK made too (Scotland I believe). Blind scan too, a real enthusiast's receiver.

Just a thought before you abandon the computer and get a DB (nice tool though) instead. you could do this.
The first is an SS1 with a bus to take the second - a cam slot.
Just another way of doing it

Will take a look at both those options thank you.

Before I do.....are there currently any other sats I can decode with the SS2/v-plug other than 1 deg West?

thanks.
