Mighty cloudy here atm ..

Is it tonight the Leonids return for a visit ?
any info on this ..
best time to look and in which direction / elevation.
assuming the cloud dissipates that is.
Much hype over possible spectacle this year ..
Just hope we don't miss out ..AGAIN.

The Leonids peak in November. Its the Perseids atm.

The meteors can be seen streaking anywhere across the sky, but if you trace their track back they appear to originate from within Perseus.

Wrong shower ....but..I knew there was something due ..
BUT as usual I shall prolly get neckache trying to spot gaps in the cloud rather than seeing the cosmic spectacle.
c'est la vie

The radiant is close to the W of Cassiopeia so will be in the north. If you see any that appear to come from the W then its a Perseid. Dont be surprised if you see some from other directions - we still get the random ones coming in from elsewhere.

About 80% cloudy here atm. There are a few breaks up towards the north but its far too light to see anything up there....

clear sky here :), but reading this from A/S link

Enjoy the comfort of a reclining lawn chair and look upward in a dark sky, far away from pesky artificial lights. Remember, your eyes can take as long as twenty minutes to truly adapt to the darkness of night. So don’t rush the process. All good things come to those who wait.

As .it was here CH ..
..and more cloud today..
typical
BBC news made reference to the Perseids this morning saying ..the most promising night will be monday ..
..and that parts of the uk _should_ get relatively clear skies monday night.
But as usual the londoncentric weather forecast they issue ..treats anything that isn't in the South or East as another country..
so I expect the NorthWest to be glossed over and ignored as per..

Yes, but don't forget you'll be first in line for a good fracking.

Latest from the BBC is it is going to be rather clear early evenng, so I'll probably sit on the roof for a couple of hours.

How high in the sky will it get? Lots of cloud here, but at least some gaps at the moment.

Almost overhead in London Rolf, and very bright indeed.

If its clear keep an eye out for a fainter satellite travelling just behind the ISS. This is the Japanese HTV-4 freighter.
