I had a couple of parts fabricated where the process included the use of a plasma cutter. I am sure there are some pictures elsewhere on the forum but I will attach them below to save a hunt around. The need was for two pieces of U section steel with inner U diameter sufficient to straddle the top edge of a polar mount frame so that inclined tracking could be added. I could not source any U section of correct inner diameter apart from in long lengths so I got the appropriate square box section in a 1 metre length and had one face cut away using a plasma cutter. The plasma cutter did the job well, cutting straight through the 5mm wall of the steel box section. I did notice that it gave a very fine ridged finish but that soon came out with a sweep over from an angle grinder with an abrasive plate. The other point was that the plasma cutter stopped once or twice and the head or whatever part is in the head needed a clean or some type of twiddling done to it. However, I am not sure if the one used for the job was that way or if it applies to all plasma cutters. pics below.
