With a Cas 3, and loader card you can program the T-Rex Cam, in 2 ways:

1 Use the Dummy Card.
Connect the Dummy Card to your Cas 3, the long rectangular PCB, which connects using the 20 pin ribbon cable.
Download the latest Predator/Predasaur file, if you're unsure of which version your Cam is stick with the Predator file, predator 380, as they both open the same.
Uncompress the file, using winzip, winrar, or a free utility like 7-zip.
Store predator380.dra on your computer desktop.
Ensure you have the latest Cas software installed, Cas 8.7, on your PC.
Insert the T-Rex Cam into your Cas 3 and insert the Dummy card with the ribbon cable connection underneath.
Start up the Cas 8.7 software.
Click on the Cam Module tab, then the Dragon Cams icon, and the first T-Rex cam icon.
Click on the icon with 3 dots, at the end of the file address bar, and navigate to the desktop and predator380.dra.
Select it and click open.
Now Click the Start Update icon and let the cam load.

2 Using the loader card.
Download Predator 380, as above.
Start uo the Cas 8.7 software.
Click on the Smartcard tab
Select Dragon Loader card and insert the card in the rear of the Cas 3, chip facing down.
Click on the folder icon, at the end of the address bar, and select predator380.dra.
Click on Write to dragon Cam and wait for the card to be programmed.

Now tune your receiver to a FTA channel.
Turn off your receiver.
Insert the loader card into the T-Rex Cam, chip facing up, and the cam into your receiver.
Turn on your receiver.
Navigate to the Cam menu, in your receiver, and once accessed select Yes to load the Cam.
Wait for it to finish and follow the onscreen instructions.

The Predasaur files are only for the T-Rex 4.6 supermodule, which is why I suggested loading Predator 380 instead, as these are for all Dragon/T-Rex cams, and are identical.
Have you tried using the Cas 3 and Dummy card?
What type of loader card do you have?
There are loader card repair files but most require using the programmer in phoenix mode and using the loader software, which requires having your Cas 3 connected using a serial cable as well as a USB cable.

They are probably clones, have a read through the Dreambox section for information on them.
Have a look at the bottom of the T-Rex Cam for which version it is, there were 2 types.
You stated you had a Cas 3 programmer, these came with 2 PCB's, Pronted Circuit Boards, as add ons, to program different cams, one was called a Dummy Card for programming Dragon/T-Rex cams.
Try programming your card again but use Predator380.dra, not the Predasaur file.

You're based on the other side of the world, to me, so I don't know what satellites, or channels, you are viewing.
I should imagine a linux based receiver will support most subscription cards, providing the right software is available.
What information do you get from the T-Rex cam when you check it using your receivers CI option, is there anything already loaded on it?

The Security Update is no longer of any use, this feature wasn't supported for too long as official support ended fairly quickly.
Here are 2 images to show you what the Dummy Card looks like and how it works with the Cas 3+.

The cheapest card, and easiest to program, is the Fun Card 7, this can be programmed by most card programmers.
What happened when you tried to program your current card in the Cas 3?
Did you get an ATR?

If the card doesn't have an ATR then it must be faulty, try cleaning the chip, gently rubbing it with a clean cloth.
What error message are you getting when you insert the card into the programmer?

Yes, the cheapest option is probably a Fun Card 7, about £10, unless you can get hold of a Dummy Card to fit your Cas 3+

No good whatsoever, all these old cards are of very little use now, the only two you can use for the Dragon/T-Rex is the Fun 7 or Pic f84a.
If you start up your Cas 8.7 software, click on the smartcard tab, the card programmer icon and insert your card the Cas 3 should auto detect it for you.
