Hi All, Do we have any users of the TBS5925 DVB-S2, I was thinking of buying one for feedhunting but hoping to get some info here first...I already have an Azbox premium+ that I use for 4.2.2 feeds and a Technomate 6900 for general use. But both are too slow for searching the usual feed sats...and the 5925 looks like it will be a much quicker addition.

I only have a laptop so the USB version is my only option, there appears to be plenty of software for this unit but I need some advice on if it is any good. I have read on another forum that the 5925 does 4.2.2 feeds...if it does I could get rid of the Azbox that is not that good at blindscaning.

I am also unsure of buying direct from the manufacterer or looking for a UK based supplier if there is one, so any help or advice would be much appricatied.

Kind regards
James.

There are a couple of members here who own the card, can't remember who, so maybe you'll have to wait for any info from them here.

You can buy with confidence from buydvb.net, I and several others here have obtained our TBS6925 from them. Comes direct from Hong Kong.

It doesn't resolve 4:2:2 channels, but VLC on your PC has the codecs to do this.

Hello jamesjay - I have a TBS 5925 but it looks like you want to use it for 'serious stuff'. As my user ID suggests I am still learning and haven't used it for much beyond simple DVB-S2 viewing. I purchased mine because I thought it would be a while before I'd grow out of it.I can't even tell you where to buy them from because I got mine secondhand.

It is a small USB Box that gets quite warm after a while (I'm sure I managed to make it malfunction by leaving it under my equally hot laptop). It requires an external PSU so it's not truly portable unless you have an inverter.

I curse the drivers that come with the box - they don't work very well and I *do* know how Windows works. (If anybody else has problems installing the drivers then delete the 32-bit or 64-bit folder which does NOT apply to your system, ie: if you're on 32-bit Windows then delete the x64 folder)

Getting software like CrazyScan to work has also been interesting. The version that comes on the CD does work out of the box so at least you can see how good it is. Upgrading to the latest version was more fun (because the StreamReader DLL wouldn't work with the latest version and the StreamReader DLL download that TBS offer doesn't include the TBS 5625 :confused)

You get an OEM version of DVB Dream, but chances are the version on the driver CD is out of date. Get 1.7c from the web - at least this version allows 'network scan' which is just as well as the transponder lists are fairly out of date. DVB Dream for me did not work out of the box - scan and you would get nothing (although you could see a signal strength/quality that was correct). I eventually fixed that, but even now I can't get it to display HD channels (Despite selecting the Microsoft codec). I downloaded the latest DVB Dream software (30 day trial) and found this could play HD channels but only using streaming via VLC.

Compared to my old TM 5300 D+ M2 it is not as sensitive. I have run both boxes off the same quad LNB and noticed the signal quality differs by around 20% (it's higher on TM 5300). I haven't tried to drive my USALS motor with the TBS, so can't confirm whether that works or not. I haven't done any low-rate symbol scanning or received any 16APSK/32APSK streams.

If you have any other questions though I'll try and help!
