Chris Lee (v4l-updatelee) has at last included a driver for the TBS6983 pci(e) card for the updateDVB Linux application. He was reluctant to do so before, as it's not open source (is it now?)

Blind scan very fast now of course compared to my TBS5925.

His Bitbucket page has the latest repositories needed: updatelee — Bitbucket

Thanks for the information I am thinking of buying one of these does the new software find as many transponders as the old slower software did ?

Compared to the TBS5925? It certainly finds some of the more weaker TPs blindscanning with Crazycat's Crazyscan spectrum tool, or EBSPro.
I haven't compared the two cards in updateDVB yet, as there's a problem with DiSEqC switching, hopefully soon to be remedied by UDL, updateDVB's originator.

there are no common point between 5925 and 6983 for the blindscan speed.

you will enjoy and appreciate it.

PS: for some "unknown reasons" , sometimes, you can have a lock with TBS5925 / EBS and not with TBS6983 .

I am wondering how easy is it to get the 6925 running under Linux Mint? I am thinking of ditching Windows 7 but CrazyScan has kept me with it for very long time.

While I am asking is there any software to smart encode H.264 as in only encode video that's been cut to the nearest keyframe?

It's not especially difficult as long as you follow the instructions laid out in updatelee's repositories.

Do the v4l-updatelee repo first. Takes a while for the kernel to compile (mine took about half an hour to build).

Then do the updateDVB repo. For this to compile, you're asked to download the Qt application, which does the compiling. This takes another 30 minutes to build the package, as it's a large file.

If you're using a DiSEqC switch for several LNB's, there could be a problem switching LNB's - my TBS6983 doesn't seem to be sending any DiSEqC commands. Seems others have it working now though - see from about page 100 in the v4l-updatelee thread in the Computer and USB Satellite section over at Rick's satellite forum.

An update on the DiSEqC problem I was having.
By happenstance, when I upgraded Mint to Rosa (Cinnamon 17.3), recompiling updateDVB cured the DiSEqC switching fault. I think it may have been a corrupt file somewhere when I uploaded the last commit before the new Mint install.

A test of DiSEqC Port 4 switching -

Can't see any huge changes in 17.3 Gordon. The Devil's in the detail perhaps.
