i assume that its a 1000d (from reading up a bit).

can i use this to watch 'open' subscription packages by using keys? that being the case, of those packages which i would be able to access show premiership football at this time? are the german premier sport channel(s) open? how about next season (guesses)?

its not funny, he is skint and a bit daft, il proberbly give him more for it than he has asked for and a few beers tbh.

HOWEVER, the technomate reveiver without a card slot (whichever model it turns out to be), can i defo patch it and then use keys to watch stuff?

Premiere will almost certainly be secure by next season. TPS will have closed by the Autumn, so you are getting a bit restricted if you asre expecting free football

It's worth it to get the dish and have a play. Later on get another receiver with a some slots.
