Apart from the promos & QVC, Fashion only Turksat's TRT 4K has a regular service, the Italian Rai looked quite promising then they encrypted it last month now they have shut it down :-doh

The BBC did show Blue Planet in 4K UHD via the iPlayer but this finished on the 29th January :(

Hispasat 30 west Eutelsat 13 east & SES Astra on 28.2E, 23.5E, 19.2E & 4.8 east just show continuous loop promo,

This is a sad reflection of 4K TV in Europe I hope it improves.

Its the 3D tv chicken & egg situation all over again - the customers arent really interested because there isnt anything to watch and there isnt anything to watch because the customers arent interested!

Lets be brutally honest - most viewers are satisfied with SD & HD transmissions. We dont have the Sky HD pack and on our LG 43" tv almost all the SD channels we watch are perfectly acceptable. And anyway in these tight economic times only relatively few folk have the readies to throw at Sky just for ultra premium UHD transmissions

For me your words are spot on.... and true HD is very satisfying for me.....only my thoughts of course.
The lack of availability of 3D or 4K channels and the increase in HD transmissions for me confirms your post. :Y:Y

I have a 3D TV, I went to look at 4K TV's and none are 3D it seems! I actually use that feature.

And they need to fully utilise 1080p fully before they go 4K! Watch a 4K programme downscalled to 1080P and you will see
what HD is capable of!

Did you ever try to record a movie in 4k, you need a new pc and a very big HardDisk, then what?
Your phone can't read it, the pc stutters.... 20 minutes to move it.... and let alone convert it to mp4/mvk...
in 5 years maybe.....
ciao

Hi,
On 9°east 11919 V 27500 Fashion Television in 1920 x 1080p 25fps, I think it's the only one channel in 1080p all the others HD are in 1080i.
If you known others in 1080p...thanks!

Indeed, and that's rare. Zen TV HD on the same satellite was the first channel to transmit in 1080p, I think they are 1080i now!

4K belongs in a cinema - it's pointless having it on a 40" TV in a 5 sq/m living room (like mine). 3D was a gimmick even for the cinema - I had headaches after watching 3D content (with glasses on!). Same with HFR - movies turned into soap operas. And trying to create smoothness from what is supposed to be a tried and test 24fps movie is...well... stupid. A lot of new TVs have this - it's the first thing I turn off.

3D a Gimmick? Never :) I use it a lot and also enjoy using my VR.
Yes I can't watch a TV with that nonsense turned on, I cringe at friends houses when they have that turned on and they try turning it off when I mention it to them and say they can either not tell a difference or prefer it! - Marketing nonsense.

Guess it appeals to people who like setting a EQ on audio to a V shape or have the loudness button in and bass boost.

I've got every enhancement turned off on my TV's it's the first thing I do, manufacturers insist on putting it on retina scorching mode out of the box.
Saying that my bedroom TV is a large Samsung professional monitor that's used for digital signage so doesn't have any of that nonsense on it. Makes me laugh that the picture settings are "Terminals/Airports, Malls etc"

I can't watch films in some cinemas as I see horrible effects from the digital projection that gives me a headache and can't watch DLP either. I had to buy a Epson 3LCD projector for home.

With multiple companies working on 8K equipment, screens, cameras and content transfer, 4K is dead in the water.

Bring on 8K 40" TVs....

What's your eyes' resolution? Can we practically perceive the difference between 4K and 8K (or even 1080p and 4K) on typical living room TVs?

Depends on the person, none look realistic to me. I know people who can't see the difference between HD/SD!
Can't wait for the day we get holographic TV or is like looking out the window.

The Samsung QE85Q900 85" Smart 8K HDR QLED TV is available to buy also comes in 75'' and 65''. The dearest costs £14,999 and the cheapest is £4,999. Prices will come down and current reviews are impressive.

4K? 8K? Pfff! 16K is the future.

I do remember back in the mid 00's reading that NHK did some 8K viewing tests showing footage from a prototype 8K camera mounted on a car that was driven around Tokyo, projected on to an 80 inch screen. It ended up that some of the people watching suffered from motion sickness, albeit the reverse of how it is normally brought on - i.e. where it is normally brought on because the body senses it is travelling while the mind doesn't register it, in this case the mind was sensing it was travelling while the body didn't register!

From my point of view, 4K UHD is useless for normal home use.
We have two 50-inch TVs and the picture is bad with standard definition broadcasts
And how will it look like on 75 inch 4K TV a SD signal ?

All these comments are interesting. I have no problems with SD Sky UK satellite broadcasts on a 43" LG tv. I wont pay for the HD pack so whillst we will watch the HD broadcasts of the free channels (when I remind the missus to change over!) The SD stuff is absolutely fine
