After reading one or two threads on here, I decided to try one made from one of those chopping boards, this one was 80p from Ikea, I decided I would take the wife so I could buy one lol...
A nice increase fom 62% quality on the African 1W feed to over 70%. Thanks to all those who said it P1010016.JPG would bring an improvement, it sure did!

Yup, one of VS's brainwaves ;)

I'm using one made from an offcut of Perspex. A good 1 to 1.5dB improvement over the supplied dielectric 'domino'.

On the contrary VS, your ideas inspire me!
I'm hoping to keep off a tupperware bowl, etc.. with the rain cover being place.

might need @nelson_b help. :)

also should it go all the way down the throat until it hits the ridge (oo-er)

Sounds like you are describing a "Tonsil Tickler" rather than a T plate.
Check the 1st post in this topic for a picture of how it is cut for the hooded scalar. One of the UK's top C-Band men "scopus" cut it reet nicely

It is strapped on yet?

The positioning in to the throat is related to the optimum position of the scalar on the l.n.b. barrel ... as the plate sits tight up to the steps in the scalar ring .... picture later of how it sits on a BSC421

The plate pictured in post 7 .. is an upgraded experiment from my original - in that the plate is slotted to fit right down into the scalar rings ... it did not perform any better or worse than the earlier one which is not slotted (picture below) - and is just butted up against the scalar rings ..... and is not even quite butted up fully against the first ring..... the more important factors seemed to be the depth of plate into the throat ( 58 mm on the BSC421) - and the overall length of plate

edit -
and perhaps the material that the plate was made from ? ... i tried other thinner boards at the time but this 8.5 mm type /one was the best
