Yes, when the scientists are confident enough to publish the results for open debate amongst their fellow peers, you can be sure there's something interesting going on here. There's a conference at CERN this afternoon, which can be seen on the webcast -

ANY Trekkie or Trekker already knows of these particles. They are Tachyons.

Next - Dilithium crystals and anti-matter drives.

Well ...it's a fact Paul that _most_ technological advancements these days ..are first brought to life in Science fiction ...then the boffins and industry move heaven and earth to make these ideas a reality ..
The Ipad a case in point ...such tablets first appeared on Star trek ....as did the communicator ...the forerunner of the mobile phone as we know it ..
If nothing else ..the discovery of Tachyons will re-write the history books ...and I for one am 'moved' by the possibilities ..
..Just sad I won't be around to see such wonders ....
I _may_ just live long enough to see human footprints on Mars ...
I guess that will have to do ....and I could die moderately happy knowing this has been achieved..
sorry to stray off topic ...

...another idea for inter stellar travel ..I read about in sci fi books as a child ...was the Bussard Ramjet ..
That is certainly achievable ...and only relies on free fuel collected en route ...
No longer in the realms of sci fi for me ...
One day this _will_ happen ..I'm convinced of it ..

Wasn't able to see much of myself, but it says here that it will be available later on VS. Where I'm not sure.

Looks like Einstein was right

(Then again the more sceptical might think they have discovered something and this is the start of an elaborate coverup).
