So ..have I been duped ..or is this a new desgn ?
I'm confused so perhaps someone can shed some light....
I order a second C1PLL wideband the other day for my Jaero experiments ... which just arrived..
Opened the box to see one that looks like a conventional C band lnbf ..
No bulky alluminium finned heatsink on this one..
All light green powder coated
All the info on the actual lnb reads as follows..
Titanium Satellite
C-Band LNBF phase locked loop
Model : C1W-PLL lite
Input 3.4~4.2ghz
Output : 950~1750Mhz
LO : 5150Mhz
NF :15 K Gain 65db

So looks like it is what it says it is ...but the 'W' and 'Lite' are obviously different along with the physical differences..
Is this genuine or fake ?
Is it a re-design ?
Have they just redsigned removing the need for a bulky heatsink I wonder ?

Thanks for that Feedsat ..
Should do the job on Carl and be more stable than the ESX ..
I'll be trying it tomorrow..
cheers

The Lite and the W that I got direct from Titanium, have different front ends, castings & scalar rings. See Titanium PLL C Band LNBs the dual output W (see Osmocom link) looks like the same front end as the single W. I haven't tried a proper comparison yet but found the lite to be better at some frequencies/polarisation than the W and vice-versa.

If you are using it just for JAERO, try both linear polarisations and flip the plate to see which works best. There are differences in the performance of each front end.

The LNBF dissipates <2W and the heat sink cover is not thermally connected to much. In my view, the only benefit of the heat sink over the stamped plate is its rigidity forming a better weather seal.

On another forum across the pond for you folks, the owner of Titanium has gotten into many heated discussions about the uselessness of the heatsink. Several of us, most of all EB, have basically written this equipment off and in most our cases hasn't even performed to the standards of a dro lnbf.

I think the designer is making too big a thing about the heat sink. Wrapping the thing in shiny foil might be better for desert locations. As far as performance, I'd use one over a DRO if I wanted low phase noise and stability (JAERO) but you might find a lower noise DRO for TV.

The front end device specs quote ~0.3dB (20.7degK) and 0.35dB (24.3K) for the W & lite respectively (and that's without later stage noise contributions). I don't think the overall NF is getting close to those figures but it's not that much different to other consumer grade stuff. The W uses a wire as the input element which is what might be done to tweak a front end for best NF and to reduce PCB losses. However, I can't see it being tweaked on every unit in production. Measuring these low noise figures is hard at the best of times.

I still think that the lite is a bargain.

Totally agree this LNB is gathering dust in my workshop. My astrotel by far outperforms the tit.
Not much for the guy that owns tit, he closed another company down if memory serves me right that had close connections with Fortecstar. Basically he said he had working 422 software for the Fortecstar Passion receiver which turned out to be a complete lie when I asked Fortecstar themselves

Another thing that could get someone (it got me) was the V/H switching voltage. On my W it is very close to 14V. My TBS6983 is 14.2V off load for vertical pol. With a short cable (not much V drop) I could not get the W to switch to vertical. Easy enough to fix but had me confused for ages when trying to work out why I got better performance on the wrong polarisation.
