Thank you for providing a link to this thread on a different forum. I am in the lucky position of being able to read and write Italian as well as to speak and understand most of what I watch on Italian television. The thread was summed up in the first few posts - and that saved me from reading all 300+ of them! Phew! I can understand the Italian used in the explanation even though I am less familiar with the technology under discussion. You have correctly identified a technical change that has caused incompatibility between some of the older cards and the newer CAMs. The key passages are in posts #2 and #5, as follows: #2 "Fin qui tutte le tessere sono interscambiabili, cioè tutte funzionano su tutti i decoder e CAM" "#2 Up to this point all the cards are interchangeable, that is all of them work on all the STBs and CAMs" In English we might have written that in the past tense but the writer used the narrative present to describe the past. The meaning is clear. "#5 Le nuove cam hanno codifica merlin così come le nuove tessere, quindi non verrebbero letti da vecchi decoder e/o precedenti cam." "#5 The new CAMs have Merlin coding just like the new cards, therefore they would not be read by old STBs and/or previous CAMs." Those sentences seem to identify my problem. My card was capable of being read by any CAM; but, at the time, I was told that almost everyone was using the Samsung CAM2. So, I bought that one and have enjoyed trouble-free viewing ever since. When, a couple of months ago, I bought the Gold HD card and CAM from Amazon, it would not work in my STB that does not have CI+ technology. My existing card worked in the HD CAM to view the SD channels but would not open the encrypted HD ones. I returned the card and CAM and Amazon refunded me. There was no point in repeating that exercise and I needed to get to the bottom of the problem. Therefore, I came back to this site for advice. You have all been brilliant in supplying it. While I recognise that the cards will work on equipment that is not on the Tivusat approved list, it is more trouble than it is worth to buy unlisted CAMs and STBs in the search for compatibility. I have a lot of experience of Italian mentality and regulations. Any future problems will be attributed to the use of "unofficial" products. So, I am resigned to buying from the authorised list. In my experience, Amazon's after-sales service is better than most and the equal of the best. After 1 January, there may be some form filling required from Customs and possibly some form of tax imposed. From what I have read, the overall price is below the likely threshold of £390. Either way, the costs will be marginal. I hope that my translations of the two sentences will allow people to follow what has happened. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I stood still while the world turned below me. I then found myself in an awkward situation where I could not understand what the world had done to me!
