I have the Precision 1.8 all set up perfect, string test is 100% and after all that work in restoring it with removing the rust from the 1224 motor etc and painting the dish I find I am not getting enough signal from the few satellites I can get. Stuck the Dishpointer app on the tablet and the arc is 70% blocked out by green foliage. Therefore instead of running all the cables to my den I will finish the restore and let it go to another who has less restricted views.

TJ,

That's a shame, it sounds as though you have put in quite a bit of time with the restoration. Have you no other options for locating it to get a better arc? Alternatively, if the trees are not evergreens you could possibly get use from it after leaf fall.

Which sats are blocked? Some might not be too much of a loss anyway.

I can imagine what would you say seeing me preparing the wood for burning  . Wood is a green energy for me to heat the house.

All deciduous as far as I could tell when I was down there, though it was some two months ago and there has been a lot of rain since then.

I'd buy the system back, it is a good one, worked well at Ku band.

Had a structural survey carried out which basically amounted to ten grand worth of repairs

Buyer would not look at the survey he wants the full asking price (which he wont get)

I was told by the local electronics shop old timer to try another lnb after explaining it appeared reasonable on KU band lnb not properly setup. Although I only did 0.8 west. As I have already spent a few quid on it I thought what the hell.

No worries, it has given me something to do and pushed me to be motivated as the doc ordered. Will try to post some photos later of the view from dish level. :D

Very similar indeed to my own outlook.

Not unattractive, but does lead to some pesky arc limitations relieved to some extent, as has been said, after leaf fall.

Lovely place you have, TJ, very green. It's places like these, which look very well maintained, that make it difficult to cut the trees down. You can always trim them if they are on your property. Keeps them healthy(?) and away from the arc.

Even if you have planted the trees you still need planning permission to do any serious pruning. All the oak and fir trees have tpo's on them.

TJ,

What LNB are you using for Ku band?
From my personal experience I have found the Invacom C120 quad LNB to be the best performer on a Precision prime focus dish.

For C band using a Precision prime focus dish on circularly polarised signals I found that a Titanium LNB perfomed better than a Zinwell LNB. However, once the Zinwell was used without the dielectric plate and in conjunction with a polariser barrel it outperformed the Titanium. I have yet to test the Titanium LNB without dielectric plate in conjunction with a polariser barrel.

Looking at your photos of foliage, the landscape does not look too bleak for signals? However, the photos do not give the best idea of distance and scale so it might be worse than it looks.

Whatever signals you are getting now should be improved upon once we get to the Autumn and leaf fall. I would give it a few months before you decide if it is not worthwhile with the setup before selling.
