Hi guys, I've recently set up my diseqc motor and I am receiving quite a few satellites, but I have a question about Cams. I am a total beginner as far as cams are concerned, but I thought it was time to try them out. My question is, what cam and card would I need to receive channels like Fox, Fox life, AXN on Hispasat? I have a 2CI 0 GBsat receiver. I need to know what cam? What card and what programmer? The whole Cam thing frightens me, cos it seems so difficult. I know you guys know what you are talking about. Thanks in advance. :-doh!

hi Teena
Not sure about the ch your looking to open but the cam of the moment is the Dragon and you need a loader card to programme it. A lot of guys here have them so brouse around the see what you come up with. havent been on the last few weeks so dont know whats happening yet as far as what ch are open, so I have a lot of sifting through threads. Dont be afraid of the dragon it wont bite you although it might burn a hole in your pocket.

Cheers John I'll have a scout around.

I don't know if this helps but the channels I want are on TV Cabo.

I would suggest a Matrix cam and cas 2 programmer. These will get you Cabo at 30 west. No card is needed.

I have done quite a bit of reading up on Cams and cards today , I think my brain is going to explode. Anyway, there are people saying the Dragon cam is better than the Matrix and vice versa. I am totally lost again. Also I have read that I may need to have funcard 5 X 3.

So basically all I need to know is, which is the easiest to use and will I be able to open channels like Multivisi*n and channels like TV Cabo on 30W?

What exactly is needed to get up and running? I don't want to buy the wrong thing as they are a bit on the expensive side. :-wow

Latest dragon is the cam to have at the moment, Comes with loader card which is very easy to programme and update the cam. Also very easy to use uk sly card in the cam. Clears tps and cabo and seems to be the most updated cam presenty on the market.
Or you could just get a dreambox and go mad!

I think the point to realise here is, like everything else in this hobby, there is no right answer to 'which is best' etc.

The Dragon Firecrypt CAM is probably the most powerful and has some of the best support etc, but the Matrix or Matrix Reloaded might do the same job, whilst saving you a lot of money. Does that make it better? I don't know.

My only piece of advice to you would be this. Spend as little money as possible on CAMs and cards, and don't get caught up in buying the latest expensive plastic every five minutes. There is a lot of money being made from the punters ATM. Just get something that works. Spend your money on either a good card programmer (Infinity Unlimited USB etc.) and/or a good CAM programmer/method.

What works today will not work tomorrow. That's the only true take-away.

It' Dragon again. I have recently bought a Dragon to use with my Emtech 200 and it doesn't work with the original software however I have not been able to introduce the latest one. The receiver seems not to respond. Any suggestions plse.

The original receiver software or the 'original' Dragon software???

Some receivers are a bit fussy ad don't like certain CAMs. Can you try it in a different receiver? Does the receiver do FTA OK?

I've been doing quite a bit of digging and as funds are somewhat non existent at the moment I've decided to go for a Matrix revolutions cam, this one seems a reasonable price, I've seen it elsewhere for £40 more.

Is this one ok for my receiver (2CI0 Gbsat)? Now I can't really afford a Cas 2 programmer at the moment, so would I need to buy 2 X fun 6 cards? Am I right in thinking you just input the codes via your remote? If so, is it easy to input the codes? Sorry about all the questions, but I want to get this right.

Hi TEENA

As the CAM you describe already has the latest software loaded on it, you will only need to update it with the latest MRV.upd files as they appear.

This will require some kind of programmer, not necessarily a CAS2, just a funcard programmer.

I understand the GBSat receivers work with the Matrix reloaded CAM, so I should think it will be fine with the MRV, but don't quote me.

TV CABO will be switching exclusively to Nagra2 soon, so I just want you to understand this before you buy.

Once that happens, your screen will be black again. :(

Don't let that stop you buying though. It appears to be a good price.

Oh dear, not to worry, I just bought the Cam last night, haven't got the cards or programmer yet. Can the Cam be updated without the cards? What else can be opened with the Matrix Rev cam then? Is it still worthwhile having? :-doh!

Don't fret, most of what's currently 'accessible' can be opened with the latest MRev edition.

Keys can be changed by going into the CAM menu, but these haven't changed much recently.

...and I'd definitely go for a CAS2 programmer. By the time you've budgeted for a card programmer and funcards, it wouldn't be a lot dearer.

Saves messing about with cards, just pop the cam into the CAS2 and away you go.

Didn't want to put you off, it's just nice going into these things with your eyes open.

It's as good a place to start as any, and at a good price too.

I think the CAS2 is worth getting as well. Maybe the prices will start to drop on that, now that the CAS3 is out.
