echostar receiver, windows xp.

Hi all, I've just moved into an apartment in the UK and have an Echostar receiver with 4 fixed LNB's recieving 4 satelite signals: ASTRA 1, HOTBIRD, THOR, SIRIUS. still trying to work out how to use it haha. I can switch between satelites but there are hardly any channels I can watch 90 % are scrambled ??????
Is there a card or cards I can buy to unlock channels Where, How, Cost ?
The old owner mentioned a cam (holder for a card) that goes into the machine, again, Where, Cost ? and do I need one ? doesnt a card fit straight in like the sky cards in there machines ????
My g/f is dutch so we'd like to receive the Dutch channels ie: RTL4
Any advice would be helpfull.

Hi njb47,
welcome to the forum.
What model Echostar receiver do you have?
Most encrypted channels are now secure and can't be opened with a Cam/card anymore.
There are a few on Thor, part of Digi TV, but these will be closed very soon and so it's not worth buying a Cam to open them.
You will probably need a cam if you get a subscription card, but it might be worth looking at getting a new receiver, have a read through the forum as there are many new receivers on the market capable of doing a lot more than the old Echostar.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Sorry I cant get the model No of the receiver as I'm over in Holland at the moment but will do when I get back.
Ok haha told you this was all new lol,
what is a cam ? I take it its a holder for a subscription card ?
what price roughly for a cam, and a subscription card, to get dutch tv ? (I only want the nml channels, no sport / film packages etc.
would getting a new receiver avoid the cost of getting a cam ?
I presume a new receiver wont unscramble any more channels ? I still would need to buy a card ? if I bought a new receiver ?
I was told I could get thousands of FREEVIEW European channels haha, well I can see loads listed but there all scrambled have I bought something I cant use, I suppose the dish and LNB's are still usefull ??
Thanks again for your reply I think this will give me a headache lmao,

If you are in Holland at the moment, you are in the right place to get the card, you just need a registered address there.

You might want to look at this online shop. They are based in Holland and are official Canal Digitaal dealers.
