Travelodge removes pay-per-view system
Budget hotel chain Travelodge has removed its pay-per-view adult TV system from all its 20,000 television-equipped rooms. The system is being replaced by flat-screen digital TVs with 18 free-to-view channels.
Travelodge chief operating officer Guy Parsons said: "We have an ever increasing number of families staying with us and it's appropriate that we remove adult TV. Our other customers tell us that they would prefer to use a hotel without adult content available so we have responded to meet their needs."
Travelodge said that despite losing a revenue source the move would "undoubtedly attract more customers in the long term".
The digital channels available include: BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1, Channel 4, Five, CBeebies, BBC News 24, FilmFour and the The Hits, as well as Radio 1, Radio 2, Talk Sport and Radio 5 Live.
