This may be guesswork, as that LNB is not widely used over here, but at least for the FSS band your first two switch inputs might look something like this -

How can I set up this application to read the data on Astra 2 for example? I do not have a video card. Any advice? Can I use a Nokia D-box connected to the PC va nul modem lead?

Thanks.

There are professional interface units available that can send the transport stream to TS reader from suitable sources, whether your D-box is one of them I've no idea. In any case they are way too expensive for the average user. Better to get a USB plug-in unit such as the Hauppauge Nova-S-USB2 DVB-S device or similar.

Can you please tell me if I wanted to look at Freeview, Freesat, Sky and cable, would I need 4 separate devices - one for DVB-S, T and C and can they all be fitted to my computer?

BTW can anyoen tell me is it TSReader that gives a file that starts similar to:

Service Tables read from transponder 10847V
Network Information Table read from PID 16
Service Description Table and Bouquet Association Table read from PID 17
Time and Date Table read from PID 20
Valid at TDT time 19/03/2010 18:04:53

Network Name : ASTRA
Network ID : 32

Number of transponders : 90
Total number of services : 1121

TYPE COUNT SERVICE_TYPE
etc... ?

Can anyoen on here get such a table and send it to me? Then I will know what I am looking for.

The Freesat version starts
Service Tables read from transponder 10847V
Network Information Table read from PID 3840
Service Description Table and Bouquet Association Table read from PID 3841
Time and Date Table read from PID 3844
Valid at TDT time 19/03/2010 18:04:53

Freeview version starts:

Tables read from transport stream 1048

Time Offset Table
UTC_time = 19/03/2010 18:45:38
country_code = GBR
country_region_id = 0
local_time_offset = 00:00
local_time_offset_polarity = 0
next_time_offset = 01:00
time_of_change = 28/03/2010 01:00:00

If anyone can help me so I know this is what I am looking for, and is it TSReader that can display this I would like ot know. If it is another program, please let me know.

Thanks very much for your help.

James

Forget anything concerning c a b l e, you should know it's not discussed on this forum.

Hauppauge do a pci card combining DVB-S and DVB-T.

TSReader will show all elements of the transport stream, satellite and terrestial. An example of the TOT info for Freeview here -

Thank you for that. I assume you are saying that the software will not work without a USB "tuner" or a PCI card? Will I be able to get the same data with a USB version?

OK, and apologies for mentioning cable, it is just that I mentioned all versions of DVB in one post - my mstake but I think this is what I am after.

So long as I can export the data into a table with all the LCNs etc alongside each channel and whch bouquet each channel is in etc, that is fine. Can you confirm that.

Also, is there one for DVB-S2 and T2 yet?

Whether a USB device will work with TSReader will depend on whether an input source is available for your chosen device. Check the list shown in the hardware section at the site I mentioned. I think there's a DVB-S2 USB dongle mentioned there.

Here's a table I exported from a transponder on Hotbird -

Thanks. However, I thought it was exportable to a spreadsheet or at least displays as a table. For example, <FREQUENCY>12673<FREQUENCY> should appear in a column labelled "FREQUENCY" and the "12673" should appear in that column. I tried to open it with Excel but no luck - it just opened up as raw text.

Is it possibelt o make this into a spreadsheet? Thanks.

I just converted it from an xml file to a text file. You can export as an xml or an HTML file. How you convert to a spreadsheet sorry I can't help much there, haven't tried it.

Sorry - I meant a text file. It is a text file, but please can you tell me which PID did you read this from? You were right, as the files I had before from another user elsewhere who now seems to have vanished - sort of - used to send it to me, and that was set out in a neat table.

So which PID did you actually read?

I didn't read a specific PID, just dumped the whole stream to a file.

Was the person in question using TSReader? I haven't really looked into exporting files, just use it for general examination of the streams. I normally use Transedit, a utility for use with DVBViewer and a PCI card. Don't think that has a file exporting capability, will check though.

Transedit does indeed have an export facility. Still only XML format though. PID 20 file attached.

Could be that. Could you try PID16 and 17? The ones with the LCNs on? Thanks.

Attached is an example of a Winter Hill list. I presume that it was DVBViewer that was used. If so, I presume a USB tuner will also do the job with DVB Viewewr? The LCN bit may be somewhere else but I do not know.

Thanks for your help.

I think it works fine with e.g a Skystar2 USB or Hauppauge USB tuner.

Possibly it's a file taken from DVBViewer, but I haven't as yet found a way of exporting a similar list.
