Hello,

For those of you following my earlier thread, I gave up on the old motor and bought a new one. I was testing it on the ground before installing it on the dish.

Everything seems to be OK, except that, when the receiver is set to USALS, the motor points exactly 20 degrees west of each satellites (e.g., foes to 50w instead of 30w for Hispansat, 7w instead of 13e for Hotbird). There does not appear to be any way to adjust this. I can still set up the motor with manual positioning, but any thoughts why USALS is so far off? I triple checked and yes, the latitude and longitude are correct.

Thanks,
Bill

Usually it's due to setting your longitude to East, rather than West, or vice versa, as negative longitude readings = West, positive = East, but 20 degrees seems excessive.

If every USALS positioning is off by exactly 20 degrees then it's probably been set up incorrectly, or you have entered the wrong Longitude. Can we safely assume that if you select 19.2E, you actually get 0.8W, and 39E gives you 19.2E?

Please post your receivers Longitude settings, as they are entered, and the make/model of your receiver.

When you give the Goto-0 or Goto-Reference command, does it also go to 20 degrees off?
Then you have to reset the memory of the zero-position.

Resetting the motor does reset all GotoNn positions to default, sets the zero at the present position, and probably resets limits also?
So for the reset, first move the motor to exactly zero.
After that, check again where the Goto-0/Goto-Ref goes.

Some motors do have a reset button on them, some not. Some receivers have the reset motor command, some not.

Hope this helps,
Greetz,

No, when I select Go to Reference it goes to zero.

I am sure I have the correct coordinates entered, but to make sure I changed 17e to17w. That did not help, it sent the motor further off course.

I think maybe the problem is that this motor (PowerMate DG 240s) is not USALS compliant. There is no mention of USALS in the manual, just DiSEqC 1.2. But it is strange that every position is exactly 20 degrees off. The receiver is Ferguson Ariva 102e.

Anyhow, I'll just set each satellite manually.

If the motor responds on a Goto-X command that USALS in your receiver has calculated, and it obviously does, it is in fact USALS compliant I would say. The USALS-method uses existing Eutelsat-diseqc commands, and a motor has no specific USALS-things incorporated.

You live in France, at 17E? What part of France is that?

1.7E would be more realistic.

And, yes, that motor can handle DiSEqC 1.3

Agreed about the missing decimal point... originals are either off the Brittany coast or on the Austro Hungarian border...

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!

Your location is set in your receiver's menus - so which receiver are you using, as then members can hopefully help you?
Edited: Apologies , you appear to be using a "Ferguson 120" - so is anyone familiar with that it's probably a clone of something else, but I have no idea of "what". :(
Edited 2 - could be a clone of an "Arriva 150" - anyone know anything about that?

Click on your Avatar at top right then click on Account Details.

You can then Enter/Edit your location. There are two fields, strangely - One called simply "Location" and optional, the other called "My Location" and mandatory. Just have a fiddle about. Don't forget to "Save".

FWIW, - I thought he was referring to the setup in his Rx as that would seem to be the important factor in this case, so see post #12!

Maybe - but that merely indicates how to amend his apparent location on the forum, but doesn't actually relate to his original issue which appears to relate to his sat receiver

FWIW, I think we should get back to the OP's actual problem - and not "argue" about "other issues"!:(

No argument.

He clearly wishes to put an end to the confusion caused by the discrepancy between the location incorrectly stated in his Profile and the real one. The former not being at 17E and the latter being at 17E.

Once that small but crucial detail is corrected, we can focus better on the nub of the matter.

I edited My Location on this forum, thanks. This had nothing to do with the problem with my receiver, but I can see why someone might get confused.
