USB ports

Can I use a USB adapter to download software to the receiver if I do not have a serial port on my pc.

Not as far as I know, you normally need some sort of loading program and can't run it on a USB stick.

I should be able to let you know the answer to this fairly soon....I have one ordered off e-bay. I recently got a new lappie with no serial port and cant update my comag sl55..hopefully this will do the job...let you know soon

Apparently some work, some don't. Depends on your PC and the adaptor. May also depend on your STB. Suck it and see. If you get a successful handshake, then try a flash.

As far as I can remember, the converter driver emulates a real com port, and uses the standard addressing, IRQ's etc. Your loader thinks it sees a genuine com port (which I suppose it does really...)

after alot of searching and reading in this great forum I could upgrade my receiver, it is digitall world (SFT-5010).
I worked all last night to know how to set my COMS port, finally it works.

but i still need ur support because I'm still in the beginning (no experience), after upgrading my receiver I set it factory sitting then i install all hotbird channels TPS, Multivision and ABsat, unfortunately they are still not working. is there any keys or software need to be installed also in my receiver. please advice in detail.

For T*P*S and A*B channels, you have to change the AES keys every 10 to 20 mn.

I am also interseted to know how to use USB to serial converter.
Each time I want to upgrade my receiver I have to use the computer of my friend because my laptop doesnt have port com.

I have 1 USB/Serial cable adaptor.
So how to use it.

For info I have a startrack 2005 super.
I was using a null modem cable (RS232) to upgrade it.
