Bulgarian is my native language, but I watch TV channels in English, French, Russian and even Italian and Serbian.

What size dishes are needed in Bulgaria for spot and widebeam?

They dont want them watched outside the Balkan area - same reason for the UK channels using the 28E spotbeams to limit reception outside the UK, or RTE using the Ka beam spotbeam on 9E to stop reception outside of Ireland.....

the three reasons for spot beams are

1) smaller dishes needed, less prone to heavy rain dropouts
2) frequency reuse
3) rights

as it's quite a wide beam (more so than the 28.2 UK beams), rights would still have to be cleared for a lot of countries. i would lean mean more towards 1 and 2

Hotbird is surprisingly weak and I imagine the 60cm dish installed by Vivacom will not pick up all the transponders in bad weather. Even on a 1.2m in heavy rain I can lose a fair few transponders.

yeah, the main beam is focused on the french and Italian markets so separate beam is starting to make sense

Its isnt you know.... The main beam might be CENTRED over France & Italy - but why do you think there are MILLIONS of consumers in the rest of continental Europe, North Africa & the Middle East who have their dishes pointing at 13E??

we're talking about with small dishes
 
So am I.....

Most of Europe, parts of North Africa & western Turkey are in the 48dB power line which is 75-95cm dish indicated. Thats not big.

Look at this map & the associated power lines - the majority of Europe is under the 50dB line which is 60 cm

so eastern Bulgaria theoretically only requires 60-75cm; yeah pretty small really

here in iran after arrival of nes sats, 110 cm dish is needed for full reception. 11488 is too weak and some of polish channels TPs.
