Well, it all started here for me (satellites.co.uk) about 8 months ago i was curious about a quick review done on the Vu+Duo.

3 Days later i bought one. I remember thinking, oh my god, I've just spent £300 and have no idea how to use it or set it up. Took me 3 weeks, just to begin to understand.

No regrets what so ever, exactly what i was looking for.

I mess around with other receivers and think i like this too, when i return to using my Vu+Duo i never give anything else a second thought.

I still maintain to get the best out of this receiver now and in the future you need to be a bit of a nerd, like me.

It's easy to use once its been properly setup, with the owner in mind.
Keeping it up to date (new channels added and remove, moved, TP changed and so on) could be tricky and exhausting for most.

The remote control could be more clear, description of function for that particular button. (i know it can be mapped, probably part of the problem)

For these reasons i would never tell someone Who isn't Family, a very close friend, or Nerd to purchase this receiver.

I love the popularity of this Vu+ range and the continuing support. I enjoy reading about it every where i look.

Linux for ever! Or should i say Enigma2

Nice review profixit :)

I still think my Duo is one of the worst receivers Ive ever had the misfortune to own - the receiver software hasnt grown on me at all, and when I get something better its in severe danger of being taken outside for a close encounter of the pickaxe kind

;) :D :-rofl2

I know exactly what you mean, what can you get that's on par with the Vu+Duo for the Price at the moment?

I think most manufacturers will try and produce more Linux boxes, I can see that "dreadful" style of software around for quite a while.

I can see your point AS but there aren't that many HD boxes now that support Enigma 1. As far as i'm aware the only other ones i can think of is the IPBox 55 HD & 99HD which can run both E1 or E2.

The Vu+ Duo is an excellent box, if you could run E1 on it you would be more than happy with it. Its just an unfortunate thing that the newer boxes mostly run E2 now.

If you don't like the Vu+ you would hate the Gigablue box i have now as its got the added extra that its not that reliable either as the software it runs hasn't had many of the bugs ironed out yet unlike the Vu+. In all honesty E2 is what most boxes are running these days so your going to have to get used to it eventually.

Once you've figured out E2 and where everything is i can guarentee you won't go back to E1. I hated E2 when i first had my Vu+. I would never go back to E1 now on a newer HD box.

I still have my DM7020Si which is the only thing running E1 now. Even my IPBox is now running the Neutrino based Thor image. Unfortunately its a case of move with the times or get left behind

Maybe give a vti image ago not the latest one its a bit sluggish and find a skin that looks nice and clear on a CRT.

I do agree with analogue sat im quite surprised how no one else seems to miss the functionality and reliability of E1 with my 7020 experiences . Ive seemed to got the hang of things now with VTI on my Vu+ Solo I just find the web interface unresponsive.

However at least with the newer E2 boxes more memory is available and i seem to find samba runs more stable.

Vu+ has clearly taken over as the new "dreambox" choice.

Lets face it, The Dreambox is overpriced and not as good as the Vu+

If Deam Multimedia want to stay in the market they are going to have to bring down their price, however i feel that due to Dream Multimedias arrogance that will never happen.

I agree DM are out the game now.

Ive loaded on the VTI Team Image on my Vu+ solo version 4.1 which is the latest. I can say im pretty impressed no crashing so far and the new web interface (openwebif) is very good. :)

Guys, look at the price of DM7020HD, it's laughable.

I know its comical :-lmao

I'm just going through the other boxes on the market to see what they are like. The Gigablue is a blit flakey at the moment, but i'm hoping it will get better. I'm also hoping it will become open source so other teams can start writing images for it.

The Vu+ Duo i was very impressed with, although i have my sights on the Ultimo next as and when i can get the money together for one.

Dont bother i have had one lasted 3 months the tuner sensitivity is only slightly better than the Duo, If you need 3 tuners then yes its worth it but for feeds and the like its absolute garbage and the blindscan is a joke.

Blindscan doesn't interest me as i don't do a lot of DXing like other members here, I also found the Vu+ Duo fairly senitive anyway so if the Ultimo is better than the Duo ( Even if its only slightly) then all the better.

I just like the toys it has. I also do a lot of recording which is why my DM7020Si still gets so much use.

If i can watch a channel while recording 2 others then that will do the job just fine. I'm not interested in anything DM has to offer as prefer to spend my money elsewhere.

My DM7020Si was purchased when DM was really the only company that made this sort of box so i didn't have much choice. This was before even Technomate got into the act with the TM9100.

Its the only genuine box i have ever purchased from Dream.

as i said to you on another forum, i have yet to meet any one who has ever bought a E2 based receiver specifically for Blindscan capabilities when there are far better purpose built receivers such as the Dr.HD F15 and Dr.HD F16.

I dont think you'll be disappointing Nano, I know i certainly am not and i have a Uno and Duo to compare my Ultimo against. I do agree with your take on DMM too as the last DMM i bought was also a DM7020si which now lives in it's original box after providing me with 9 years of fantastic service.
