can anyone tell me what external hdd they have succesfully used with a technosat hd va decoder, technosat cant give me advice on compatible hdd , and any other information is almost impossible to obtain.
what i have gleaned so far is that technosat do not recommend using the usb port to pwer the hdd and it is better to use one with an external power source, have been looking at wd and segate but neither can tell me if their hdd will work with this decoder as its not on their compatability lists

Please Post in French in this Section:

(Something like)

Actually, I'll find an English Language Sub-Forum that might provide a better home >>>> Wait one ...............

The advice about not using USB is partially correct: But it is also the case that power consumption requirements for modern HDDs are less than hitherto - nevertheless, it is common for Y-split USB cables to be provided for portable/external HDDs in order to make use of a second USB Port (where available) to enable more Current to be sourced.

The problem you describe is one we debated in the Skybox F3 Forum (a fairly new Openbox-like HD receiver) and you might find some applicable information over there. There's also some discussion of suitable USB sticks - here, it isn't the current sourcing that is the problem, but rather the Write speed.
