Hi

I'm totally new to satellites and I'm trying to pick up a channel called VTV4 (it's a vietnamese channel)

I have found out on a website that you can pick it up on Hotbird 13e.

what does this mean?

I'm located in London, UK and have a normal sky dish and a amstrad digibox. And I'm just using a normal Free to Air card with no subscription package.

regards

Hotbird is the name of the satellite and 13e is 13 degrees east which is the location of the satellite. if your skydish is receiving sky digital your dish will be pointing at a satellite called astra 2d which is located at 28 degrees east or 28e. You skydish would be able to receive vtv4 but this would involve moving your dish to point at this satellite.

If you need any more help then im sure I and others would be able to assist

A piece of equipment i would reccomend would be a satellite finder which can be picked up for about £10. Then you plug this in line with your dish and box and then you start moving the dish until the finder beeps which means you have found a satellite, it can be quite tricky to get the hang of it though...

Just to clarify a couple of points - ther are 5 satellites co-located at the 13E slot. (Hotbirds 1,2,3,4, & 6).

Sky is transmitted off 4 satellites at 28E, not one (Astra 2A, 2B, 2D, & Eurobird 1.)

The VTV4 transponder has Voice of Vietnam radio as well.
