What's the reason of using ONLY OUR boxes?

This is really killing the enjoyment of our hobby, i am so fed up with Sky telling us what receiver to use and that we have to use the stupid PIN code regulated by OFCOM to tell us what we can watch or not.

What is the reason they force us to use their boxes? i am so fed up with all discussions and all tricks you need to use to get their new cards working in another receiver.

Why not just let people choose what they want? and don't tell me about the stupid PIN code that is pissing me off totally, as customer we pay and we decide if we want a PIN code or not, not someone else like stupid OFCOM.

At least their should be an option to turn it off if the customer wants.

I am really considering cancelling Sky because of this, as paying customer of nearly £70 each month we should deserve better.

Why not just release a NDS CAM so you can use in any receiver with CI slot? why is everything so complicated these days.....

Because that would hand control back to the customer. $ly want to part you from as much money as possible and if they can "persuade" you to have the phone line connected then there's every chance that someone will use one of their expensive services. Also, using their own crippled Digibox means that the customer is forced to jump through hoops in order to use it to watch a non-$ly preferred channel.

It's all to to do with power and, ultimately, money.

As regards the PIN thing, I agree you should be able to disable Parental Control completely should you wish - I do understand the insistence of Ofcom that Parental Control should be available, but am unsure as to why B$£€B have implemented it in the way they have.

Let's face it, all our non-$£€ boxes have Parental Control features, but it's left to us to decide if, how, and to what extent, we apply them. And these are boxes freely available in the UK.

hello to all,
i 200% agree the pin is the dumbest thing sky has done.
some of us who are over 21 and some od us over 50 do not need the pin at all.:confused
the green option to shut off can be turned off why not the pin.:-ohcrap
sky shoul have added the option to eliminate the pin request if we choose.
they can show movies during the normal water shed so no pin request
or have the option to call them up and eliminate the pin request.
the dream box does not request the pin at all.
thats what i heard
thank goodness for something
i have tried pin on ,off only 18 request and nothing works there at all.
what a waist of softwere

Dont blame Sky for the PIN madness - the fault lies squarely at the door of Ofcom this time. The silly old buffers at Ofcom seem to think that the world will come to an end if a small child sees a couple of bare breasts on the telly occasionally.

Not going to happen - Sky are anti cams as it gives the pirate hackers a point of attack

Sky have more than 8 million subscribers, mainly based in the UK and Ireland, I can pretty much guarantee that 95% are, if not totally happy with the price they pay for the subscription, very happy with their digibox. They didn't design their digiboxes for the hobbyists and don't give a toss if they are unhappy, the more difficult it is for someone to use a different receiver, the better it is for them.

Regarding the PIN number on pre watershed viewing, I agree a royal PITA.
