Hello

Newbie here :-doh! so be gentle please :)

I'm currently in the process of gathering as much information together in order to purchase a sat system that will offer me as many live footy matches as possible (with commentary ideally in English). Of course being a newbie my first point of call was Sky, however I do not feel this offers me value for money and understand that there are in fact many other options that would offer a larger selection of matches - this is where I hope you can help explain my options.

It would be a great if I could have suggestions on what dish/receiver (HD & Non HD options) to get, viewing cards, costs etc or any other advise that will allow me to get as many channels showing live footy as possible. I can budget for a motorized system if this will provide access to extra live matches.

Also, I would like access to different channels across two rooms so is it possible to watch two different channels at the same time and if so how?

Thank you

An 80-90cm motorised dish, a receiver which is both patchable and has a CI slot and card reader, and a sub to DigitalB supersports on 16E, I think it's about £150 for 12 months.

One other thing, while looking at systems, I noticed some are offering 'monoblock for picking up astra & hotbird sats from the one dish'. Is it advisable to get this?

Also what real difference will it make between getting 80,90 or 100cm dish?

Hi,
In your original post you said you wanted to get as much football as possible, whilst a motorised 80cm-100cm dish won't do this, it will give you a lot more choice than a monoblock on 13/19E.

Here is a site that gives a list of live matches and when and where( which satellite/package) they are on etc.

Sorry I don't quite understand this? Can you explain a little further please?

If a 80cm-100cm dish and a monoblock won't give me the most live matches, what will? BTW, what exactly is a mono and multiblock and which should I get (really soz for such newbish questions).

monoblock lnb is two built in lnbs that are separated by 3 or 6 degrees to allow reception of two satellites from 1 dish and use the diseqc software to instantly switch between either two satellites

a multi block is a bracket that allow you to have 4 or even 5 lnb on 1 dish covering a range of satellites like 19east, 16east, 13east and 28east even

the most flexible option is to have a motorised dish but that depends if you have a clear view west to south east

hi m8, if you realy want guaranteed football you will need to buy a
card, I had a card for digialb last year, and the poor quality of the signal
was more than irritating.
it you don't mind playing around with a receiver, I recommend a
motorise dish and dreambox, but be sure, as a dreambox is not a plug and play unit.

regards.

Thanks wod, defo going for a motorised dish.

Dago, which dreambox would you recommend (model numbers please)? I have technomate 6900 & 9100 down on my shortlist at present.

as you have a tm9100 on your list you would be better off paying the extra and get a dreambox 7020 or 7025

i have the tm9100 and wouldn't recommend it, the receiver has annoyed me so much that i don't use it anymore because of the software isn't all that good or have support like the dreambox has

to get a system up you couldn't go wrong with a technomate 5200 or 5400 or even a manhattan xt receiver those are good starter receivers and can be patched to get extra channels

and if you did want DigitalB, then from the basic TMs you need one with a card slot, eg the 5300+ USB or 5400Ci+ USB.

I am a newbie to all of this, but I am in love with european football. I am currently in Iraq with the U.S. army, and I can receive either Hotbird or Nilesat with no problem, but that seems to be all that I can receive. I will be here until October. What card should I buy to watch either Bundesliga or FA until I leave? Second, since I have no idea where to get them, can someone direct me to the right store that might be willing to ship to me. Thanks in advance

Although the best option is a dreambox, this all depends on how good you are technically, and by that i dont mean satellite wise.... more to do with computer networking and using FTP etc...

if your not confident with a PC, then i would give a dreambox a miss, like i say the dreambox if used to its full potential is an excellent choice.

but more often than not, alot of users cant use it, and struggle with the steep learning curve. some even break it :( gadget freaks like me love it though :)

definatley get a motorised system too, if your fixed to 1 or 2 satellites with a block or static dish thats great, but having available all the satellites means you have a wider choice of football provider, sometimes on free channels.

at the moment my dreambox gets me FREE live football all the time, more than even i can watch. i bought my system for football and sport in general, and years later i am still happy with my equipment choice. i like you sought the advice of the users on this forum ... (thats the first good choice you made ;) )

most technical and eventually most rewarding... dreambox
straight out of box and watch footy..... Technomate/Manhatten + DigitalALB Subscription

the thing to remember about watching FREE football though is that channels change encryption constantly, meaning you have to keep up with the changes and fight to keep them clear.

if this is too much hassle, buy a Subscription card for 12 months uninterupted sport (better and cheaper than sky even then!)

i know for a newbie all this seems alot to take in, but trust me you do pick it up quickly (even quicker near kick off time LOL)

the best advice i can give i suppose is to take your time, read alot and ask lots of questions. Hopefully this will help you make the right choice.

if you get it wrong you could end up buying another receiver in 12 months or less... which is obviously not good.

If you have a dish pointing at Nilesat, then the best card for you is Showtime, not sure how easy to get though, you may be able to acquire one in Iraq.
