It's specified in the description: "to protet your floorint", or any other surface that you could damage with spikes.
I was thinking more of the acoustic advantage of having a non spike set in the listening room.

Perhaps it has to do more with 'sub woofer' sales, and not actual high fidelity to the ear.

No, I don't think so. It just to preserve your floor.
For example, imagine a wood floor of many bedroom. It would be badly damaged using spikes, so a different type of feet is recommended, that's all.

No, I don't think so. It just to preserve your floor.
For example, imagine a wood floor of many bedroom. It would be badly damaged using spikes, so a different type of feet is recommended, that's all.
Or, perhaps just let the loudspeakers sit on the floor, on some of that blu tack, (or if wealthy a section of rubber mat).

For those poorer people who live in multi-storey apartments, it serves to muff up the thumps the idiot is making upstairs when he plays his stereo...

How do they fit them to the loudspeakers of the idiot upstairs, drilling some holes through the floor ?

It would take some precision kit to get the placements just right.
