with a channel master of 1m20 you manage to go from where to where?
If all connection points for actuator chosen correctly, then original CM polar-mount can go almost H-H. And PM is symmetrical, so, does not really matter from which side the actuator is installed.

With the arm on the left I am limited in movement towards the west, after a certain limit the actuator is parallel to the axis of the antenna and tilts.

as soon as the weather improves (today I have a very cold fog) I will take some pictures to show how my actuator is set.
I made a solid clamp to let the actuator move away from the polar axis when it goes east (the cylinder is on the west side)
when the actuator is fully retracted (west) it is perpendicular to the south

with actuator like this the parabola sweeps faster to the east than to the west for the same actuator travel
a very good solution here !! but more complex !!

From the image and position it has been taken from you will get a better result with extending the bar behind (and to the left of ) the polarmount.
 
today i managed 17.2db on Sky News on 1w - also getting 3-4db more on 7w than my 1.2m CM.
however, i dont think setup is 100% level, so have some work to do.
the east sats are not going well - but west seems ok.

dish will need to come off and work out how to level the pole \ mount
well, i think the pole is level, but the polar mount when placed on top, is not level.

cabled into lounge today at last. i hate running cables lol - i also hate screwing on F-connectors.

Are the pair of angled struts that are clamped onto the green sleever allowing it to tilt slightly when the dish and mount are placed on top?

An option could be to drill 3 or 4 holes in the green sleever and get some M10 or M12 nuts welded over the holes.
You could then use bolts through the welded on nuts to tighten up any play between the green sleever and the inner galvo pole.
The green sleever would neeed a quick paint touch up but that's an easy job.
 
i think the issue might be the oversized tube is sitting ON the galvo pole - therefore not flush...
i was thinking raising the green sleeve pole a bit and drilling through and putting rod through. (poor rod)

thats assuming the polar mount will still be level - dish needs to come off and then i can asses - no big deal

ive just noticed i can lock the MBC channels without break up on 7W - cant find SHOWTIME SPORTS though....(jokeys - remember those days)

Sounds like the the polar mount is not quite due south, or the pole in not plumb. If you can get access to the SSS training videos they are recommended watching..

I tried to find more pictures of polar mounts from him on the internet.
Just found this (same pictures): Dx Bozoth -nuts in every positive aspect
and this movie:

In the youtube movie (between 0:28 and 1:05) it looks like again an about 1 : 2 ratio for the triangle sides, but the other way round: the smaller triangle side at the dish, the larger triangle side at the mount. But the effect is the same, of course.

I like this way of choosing a ratio like 1:2 or 1:3, to get more accuracy to the extended side of the actuator, very much.
More actuator distance per rotational degree in the extended zone, without having to get a longer actuator: shifting the accuracy more to the center of the 0-180 range, and so shifting it from the retracted side in the direction of the extended side.

I cannot remember having seen much discussion in the forums about the choice where to put the fixing points of the actuator; other than should the actuator be put on the east or west side of the dish.

Beleive it or not I have watched them a long time ago. David Craig . There are 3 vids if it's the ones u refer to. It was annoying when they showed unpacking a brand new 1.8 CM WITH ITS CM polar mount but then not actually installing it. That would have been golden viewing for me. The rest of the videos showed 1.8 CMs on Jaeger 1224 motors. The last video shows a 1.8 CM being fitted 2 stories up on the narrow roof side of a house on a 1224 motor. I would be very paranoid about that. I Wonder if it survives to this day.

I think I managed to get my pole level. The flat part of polar mount was spot on on the spirit level but I was struggling with arc still

I think my polar mount elevation angle is wrong but I have set it to my latitude which is what @nelson_b has done and his arc is good.

I would advise to first check the zero-alignment!
That would make a possible elevation/declination misalignment symmetrical around your zero.

Otherwise, when you adjust elevation/declination for the east side, it could be a mis-adjustment for the west side. Or vice versa.
In other words: when your zero-alignment is not OK, you have no proper idea in what direction to adjust the elevation/declination, unless you tested that at both the east- ad the west-side, and firstly aligned the zero.

By zero you mean the mount facing due south ? I have always thought you centre mount and dish then find 1w then lockup ...maybe is true for non polar mounts i.e usuals diseq or h to h

Yes, mount and dish facing due south.
When you have your aiming satellite (south) a bit off of due south, you could retract or extend your actuator a bit, to compensate for that.
Otherwise, test both east and west, if you track above, or below, the arc. Try to get that symmetrical, by rotating the mount on the pole. (Without USALS, that is a bit of work....)
