I realise this is a very old thread but I have exactly that problem with my AZ HD box. I have formatted both a Samsung 3G disk and a 320g FAT32usb stick, both format to 100% and are recognised but when I try to timeshift or record I get Error do not use channel. I have reformatted both twice...
