Batten down the hatches winter storm chat 2011-12

I'm confused, isn't this what in the past we called British winter? It snows a bit, then it melts relatively quickly. We mess about, complain and carry on. A few idiots crash. As for BMW's, well.... My journey to work a few years back took me along the M40 through the Chilterns to Stokenchurch...

what wire to buy for internet tv?

Well actually I don't think CW1308 has any Cat number, as your quote says it's "similar" to Cat1 cable. Nonetheless it works fine in visible domestic situations, though obviously I wouldn't use it in a commercial environment or try to push the limits. (and if you're hiding the cable I'd use...

what wire to buy for internet tv?

Cat6 is a waste of time in a domestic situation as it is only really relevant to extremely high speeds over long distances, so stick with Cat5e which is easier to bend and terminate. You can actually use 4-core telephone (CW1308) cable for 100mbps Ethernet anyway at up to 100m distance, it's...

Freesat on demand - do you need a dish

I also very much suspect that, even if you did get enough of a signal to load the initiating page the geo-locking would stop you. The same presumably applies to the iPlayer etc. interfaces on a PS3 used outside UK.

    Foxsat HD

I've got one of these on a 2nd TV (main one is a Foxsat HDR) and it usually starts up on the channel I turned it off. Is yours the standard RM-108? Mine has TV/Radio buttons that just choose a subset of channels - maybe you're confusing the function of them and leaving it in "radio" mode? Not...

    Channel 4 HD on 1N 28E

Hopefully they'll make that available soon on the FreeSat list. As noted in another thread my C4HD reception can be bad at times which someone said was probably down to it being on Eurobird with a somewhat different skew.

Channel 4 HD signal breaks up and quality only 40% (others fine)

OK, thanks very much for that it sounds like a plausible explanation. I did have my doubts about the installer as he seemed very "Sky-oriented" shall we say and that channel wasn't available at the time anyway. As C4HD isn't a channel we watch often and everything we do watch regularly is OK...

Channel 4 HD signal breaks up and quality only 40% (others fine)

Hi folks, I have no problems on other channels, standard or HD, but C4HD suffers from regular picture breakup. My Humax HD boxes (I have 2 - a PVR and receiver, fed from a quad LNB) both show a signal strength of 90% but quality of only 40%. Is this a common problem and what might be the cause...

Goodmans FreeSat SD - useless remote control

Thanks for the comments. No energy-saving bulbs in that room - they're both very old and hate them (slow starting, funny colours) so I keep them well-supplied with "traditional" ones. The RC does work, but only when within 3 feet or so of the receiver box. I have tried pointing the RC in various...

Goodmans FreeSat SD - useless remote control

Hello all, My very elderly in-laws (90+) have had FreeSat installed a few days ago very cheaply as part of the "Digital Switch" scheme. They said it didn't work so I just said, that's fine I'll sort it out when we visit at Xmas. assuming they didn't understand. Well the reality was that they...

Sky HD/FreeSAT HD install questions...I need help for new house build

Cat6 has tighter specifications so easier to get wrong when terminating IF (and it's a big if) you really need Cat6 - e.g. long distance 10gigabit networking. In a house! Cat5e is easier to handle and meets almost all known domestic networking rerquirements. Personally I use 4-core (CW1308)...

    The Oldest Mobile Phone

I have a Nokia 3110 (NHE-8) from 1997. Only GSM900. It came with the integrated handsfree car kit built into a car I bought secondhand a few years ago. Still on the original battery and works fine both in the car and standalone.
