I live about 30kms away. You won't get Astra 2D with a 1.2m dish in Skåne. You need a minimum of a 1.8m Andrews/Channel Master dish, or a 2.4m "no name" dish.
You need a good Invacom quad C120 LNB with a proper feedhorn for the dish you are using.
DO NOT skimp on either the dish or the LNB...
Hej! I think you already know the answer.
The Andrews/Channel Master 1.8m dish does a great job and works. A 2.4m cheap and nasty Fortec Star sort-of works, but is easily damaged in bad weather. And it performed worse than the 1.8m CM/Andrews dish when it did work.
I don't see changing the...
I'm not that far away from you, between Eslöv and Höör. A good 180cm dish from Channel Master, a good LNB, and accurate alignment will get you the BBC, ITV and C4. Depending on the make of 180cm dish, you're possibly only missing the last bit.
It may be cheaper in the UK, but you've then got to ship the thing. Shipping large dishes can be quite expensive! Especially if you've got to arrange it yourself and don't have an account with the UPSs or DHLs of the world and have to pay list price.
Putting a dish in a container when you are...
Put the box on the Discovery Travel and Living channel for ten minutes or so, and you'll pick up the EPG stream. If your dish is not spot on, this is on one of the transponders that seems easiest to lose.
Yeah, the Sky "help" page for tuning only uses one transponder. BBC News is also not on Astra 2D, so doesn't help you at all with knowing how likely the rest is.
Astra 2D needs a good quality large dish, a good LNB and feedhorn, and very careful and accurate alignment. Fail on any one of them...
Hi Keith,
Whereabouts in Skåne? I live near Eslöv and a 1.8m Channel Master works great. A 2.4m Fortec Star, however, worked abysmally. Size is only one part of the equation, you also need quality too.
There is some info about my install here.
Feel free to ask away.
Canal Digital, when they replaced their cards this year, claimed one of the reasons was to pair cards to a specific receiver. It doesn't actually seem to have happened. Whether that is "yet" or "can't be done" isn't very clear.
The 2.4m dish comes with the wrong type of LNB, also. Which tells you a lot about the professionalism of Fortec Star. It doesn't even have the right LNB *holder* for a C120.
Other than the Invacom Quad LNB with Invacom Feedhorn, nothing else makes much difference. There is virtually no way to accurately align it as the mounts and bracketry are so appalling.
Basically, in my honest opinion, yes. The FortecStar is a steaming pile of whatnot.
I live just across the water in Skåne, and when I moved here I bought a 2.4m FortecStar. Biggest mistake I ever made. The 2.4m dish only just worked after spending a fortune on installers, different LNBs...
