Ran some speed tests using task manager
SD speed between 3 - 4.4 MBps
HD between 8 - 11.5 MBps
Don´t think the network speed is the issue, according to network info I am connect at 54 MBps

Confused of Spain!

My Satellite Setup
OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

Custom built PC

Been into BIOS by hitting f2 on boot, no option to change settings for HeyperMemory.
Info from task manager advised it is an AMD E2 - 3800 APU with Radeon (TM) HD Graphics
Max speed 1.30 GHz
4 core
Hyper-V support : yes
L1 cache 256KB
L2 cache 2.0 MB

As yet, I have not found anywhere to change it.

Running Windows 8.1

Yah that's the problems with using a laptop for HD video processing, no way to install a better video card, and I agree the WIFI speed should not be a problem, if the problem does not go away when directly hooked to the router (WIFI turned off, direct LAN connection via CAT5/6) then it's an internal problem at the laptop.

Or one crazy idea is maybe that the VLC software is 32 bit and the laptop has a 64 bit platform, maybe a better video software can be found, maybe one on a 64 bit platform???? (best guess)

Or it could be a problem with your STB, it may not be able to push the data out fast enough at HD speeds, is it connected directly to the router via CAT5/6 cable or WIFI?

If WIFI then try the STB direct to the router via CAT5/6 and the same with the laptop, this would bypass the WIFI in the router and then router would be acting as a network switch only, this would be a 10/100 connection, and should be fast enough for most HD video's.

Yes, that makes the network ok (or at least better) and one can probably look elsewhere. Got some other laptop (or borrow one) to see how it fares in comparision? As for the laptop graphics not coping, the stream from the stb is not that heavy vs a dvd or a videofile from hd, does it glitch while reading these as well ?

edit, just a note about using 'High Performance' power scheme, but probably tried that already.

Edit 2, recommended MPC HC, a lot less processor use than vlc Home · MPC-HC

This topic made me spending some time testing streaming and transfers. Setting the network card at different speeds, even at 10Mbps it copes 99% with the quite low bitrate of BBC HD's, stays under 10 Mbps most of the time, just a few random glitches now and then.

Many German 19.2 HD's are stremaing at around 10 to 16 Mbps, the 10Mbps was failing constantly, setting network to 100 Mbps all was fine.

Conclusion, anything above around 20 Mbps (ethernet or wifi) safe for sat streaming (until 4k arrives :O).
A 1000 Mbps network is of no practical use for streaming, but definitely comes into use for file transfer, notice the real life conversion of Mb to MB. see attach.

Transferred the biggest file I have on the external hard drive connected to the Extrend STB, only 16 MB, but I was quick ( the second time ) and the wifi speed exceeded 26 MBps. ( the file was 4 hours of golf off one of the streams via 12.5 W )
Need to record about 24 hrs of sh** from any of the HD channels to do a proper test, but figure the wifi / lan ( cable connection to STB ) is not the issue.
Going to try playing the recording on the STB and connecting from the laptop to watch the playback, don´t think anything will change, but who knows!

16 MB -\- the file was 4 hours of golf
Maybe 16 GB?, as 16 MB is rather 4 seconds :O) Was it a large .ts file ? If so, would take ages to download at 26 Mbps, but would get there in the end. Try playing it in vlc, if the pc copes than it should cope with streaming as well ...IMO.

No , 16 MB, it was a deleted file from the e-sata connected HDD which I restored, so only 16 MB. Able to play it on the STB but VLC gave an error.
I´m currently recording CH4 HD, up to 2 GB now, so will try with that and post back.

Currently downloading 3.4 GB of file from hard drive connected to STB via e-sata , to laptop via wifi via router.
Running at 26 MBps , will take about 15 mins in total.

OK, downloaded file to laptop, was 3.6 GB in the end and took 15 - 20 mins via the wifi at 26 MBps.
It is a ts file so VLC can play it no problem, BUT , there is a problem, sound OK but picture jumps from frame to frame.
CPU running at 45 - 50% at 1.27 GHz
So problem is within the laptop!
OK, as the magic memory ( HyperMemory ) could be to blame, who knows out about that? And how to expand it?

If all else fails, I´ll ask Big Brother!

Well I had all sorts of problems with video transfers between PC's (one server and 8 work stations, all of them on one network) until I installed 10/100/1000 LAN cards in all and went to a gigabit router with a 10/100/1000 LAN interface, all problems went south for the winter and never came back.

Can you look through your PC's manual for info on it's BIOS settings to see what/where to expand this???? If possible..

^^^ morale of the story so far, never buy lowpriced AMD equipped laptops...

Last shots: power is set to high performance? (as if if there ever was any high with this AMD), and try mpc-hc.

Manual? On line guide which is about as much use as a chocolate teapot!
You have a model number, we can look for one in PDF.
