As you may have saw, Picked up a 1.5m Gibby 'new'. Sadly it has came via Parcelforce through a war zone.

Ive laid it flat today and used some sheet benders and a hammer and have it almost there, the top of the dish rim is still bent a bit but it is laying flat with no wobble and the actual dish looks fine so I think it might be 'ok'.

Im just waiting on a 2nd parcel with the 'hardware' to be able to mount it.

Who sent you an inappropriately packaged antenna?? I would return this antenna at the same moment - let the seller cover the damage because the antenna is not protected as necessary - or the courier service that took over and delivered the package. The antenna will probably be useful for C band - for Ku unfortunately no, because there is no way to get it to produce the results it should. Unfortunately, alu is sensitive

Was a seller looking to shift it, so there isn't a replacement to send. But yes I am looking into compensation.

I'll certainly still see how it does on Ku, Who knows maybe I can get lucky.

Once, a friend of mine asked to help him with 1.1m gibertiny dish. I must say that was not so easy task to accomplish. I've made the plywood box for the dish, so it arrived in the good condition (same as it was sent). 1.5m mirror, man, that is something to pack safely. The bottom-line of this, antennas bigger than 1m should not be sent via usual mail services, it is much easier (and cheaper) to buy them online. Edit; I mean, locally.

That can be straightened out, but the paint requires some work

As the recipient you will need to ask the sender for compo claiming, then the courier will be in the driving seat on the packaging unless insured for the full amount against 'any' damage beyond total loss as it was delivered.

At the very least it is now not fit for the purpose for which it was sold. You have my sympathy I have had similar experiences but not with a dish.

It looks like the dish was laid flat on the deck and a pallet or other heavy cargo was loaded on top of it. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but a label marked “do not lay flat” would have helped. Obviously a wooden frame simply constructed around the dish at a reasonable price was the obvious choice.

Got it up on a temporary stand as Ive ran out of ground stands.

Ive never stringed a dish before so it may be totally wrong but the strings to touch in the middle.

Im still seeing a warp at the very top though that I think Ill need to beat out.

Now pull the vertical cord into both ends of the antenna from the middle and watch if the two cords continue to touch. I had a case where the lower right part of the antenna was deformed.

Because im impatient I threw an LNB on it and actually found I was 28.2e just by luck... how often does that happen haha.

Peaked the dish and LNB skew and Im getting 12.5db on the F1 feed on 28.2 currently.

My 1.8m is getting 11.9db on that same feed so something must be up with that dish, not a great comparison.

Anyone got a 1.5m or about in the UK and could compare maybe?

Yeh I meant something is up with my 1.8m, probably just LNB skew

Its sort of apples vs oranges anyway, would be good to see another 1.5m result.

Well the day has went from promising to disapointing.

I've pointed it to 7e because I know my 1.2m Gibby on 7e is peaked and working the best it can.

1.2m - 10.6db
1.5m - 10.5db

So I essentially have a 1.5m dish thats as good as 1.2m right now... I guess that top bend is actually a problem Ill have to solve

Theoretically, a 1.2m to a 1.5m should gain you just under 2.0dB ( 1.94dB ).

However, it is only an approximation, always seems to be slightly less increase in practice.
I am guessing you should be somewhere in the region of 12.0dB to 12.2dB with the 1.5m.

For a realistic like for like comparison you need someone reasonably close to you unless the frequency is strong UK wide with hardly any local variances across the UK.

Yeh too many variables I agree. Thank you for the 2db gain info tho, thats a good ballpark.
