Thanks for headsup @Fisty McB . Noise floor of those extra wide data transponders is gonna be a problem for those on the edge of the footprint.

Worth noting that if interference from the Mid-Mediterranean is occurring in a particular place, a larger dish is unlikely to help in such a situation, as not only will a larger dish pick up more of the wanted North Sea beam signal, it will also pick up more of the unwanted Mid-Mediterranean beam signal, and as such the signal-to-noise ration will remain approximately the same.

The only hope then is that the pest signal eventually goes away.

We seen this nearly two years ago when Russian T2-MI services appeared on 14W - two of those signals were interfered with by data carriers on Telstar 12 Vantage at 15W (though were presumably okay in the parts of occupied Ukraine they switched TX feeds to - all academic now as the Russian signals are gone).

I don't know how long Siminn TV/Radio streams will survive on this satellite. The signal on this one remains the strongest and at the same constant level in my area. It will probably have the same fate as the BBC package, i.e., moved to the North Sea spot.
A last visit to 27.5W, with few active transponders, seems to announce a "mourning" at this position.

Nope - see the other thread - its changed to a different modulatuion form. The signal is still there but conventional receivers cant do anything with the modulation type

PLS maybe?
Hmm our guys must know PLS as its fairly common - it seems to be be something a bit unusual

Im wondering if this is a test of something new that will eventually replace the easily decoded 27.5W transmission when the I901 satellite is decommissioned - which may be sooner rather than later with its problems

Interesting that the BBC removed all SD services to save a few quids, but is happy to spend taxpayers Money on these tests and possibly replacing the professional equipment needed to receive a different modulation

I cant imagine its the BBC directly. Arqivia are the ones who manage freeview, so if they know their lease on 27.5w is ending soon they are obviously just being prudent and if they change backup satellites, to the BBC potentially nothing changes cost wise.

The Kabelio managers are probably having a party after this news
this noise about BBC-SATBACK will attract many questions about the legality of having the BBC UK version on their pay-tv platform

It is fully allowed to carry the UK PSBs under Swiss law. It protects those rights by restricting usage to people with Swiss addresses.
There is nothing unlawful about Kabelio

would be good if you elaborate and show us this official "SWISS LAW" you are talking about, none of the other European platforms has the BBC UK Version, check the Polish, Dutch...etc they all have BBC Prime and some other international versions but never the UK Version, Kabelio reminds me of a Czech & Slovak Version via Hispasat once! just wonder why they suddenly stopped transmitting

To the best of my knowledge, Swiss Federal law allows a rebroadcaster (either licenced or private network) to relay a television station based outside of Switzerland on their own network provided (a) they offer to pay the broadcaster the copyright fees that may be liable, and (b) reception is achieved by using a "reasonable" sized antenna, though what is defined as reasonable is anyone's guess. Presumably, Kabelio are using a satellite dish (probably located in the west or north west of Switzerland where reception should be at its easiest) to receive UK TV stations from 28E and then "relay" them as part of their single package of channels on 13E - (AFAIK ORF is "relayed" via reception of DTT transmissions from South Tyrol in northern Italy in an otherwise similar fashion). It's not just Kabelio that do this, pretty much every cable/IPTV operator in the country is relaying the main UK TV channels for their customers.

Kabelio market themselves as providing a basic cable choice to the few Swiss people not within reach of a cable network and to the best of my knowledge are run by the same people that run the Satelio satellite platform that rebroadcasts German channels to German speakers in the southern third of Africa (currently on Astra 4A). The whole Kabelio operation seems above board at least under Swiss law - they only allow subscribers that have a Swiss residential address to subscribe which presumably keeps potential copyright conflicts to a minimum. Also since they're neither in the EU or EEA, EU copyright directives don't apply in Switzerland (unless by bilateral agreement).

You explained it perfectly, Kabelio doesn't have a legal problem, their issue could be a commercial failure but if Satback is taken off Intelsat, the BBC would give them a big help in getting new potential customers

As easy as that ... probably co-location here.
