Today's scan using 1.2m offset. Some narrow TPs had to be manually locked.

It's not doing too bad Graham, here's my scan this morning looking through overcast / drizzle etc. Using Inverto Ka/Ku lnbf with Hughes scalar fitted, location North Notts.
Might be a bit too cold and wet to test the Gilat on the test dish today Graham lol.

Pretty good and interesting, you have an extra one at 21536 1099ks/s but missed the one at 21541 1070ks/s (the upper one of the 2 1070ks/s, our freq cal is different). What's on 21536 (21534 Lyngsat listing)? Pouring here now and the electronics has been removed. Yesterday's scans were clear sky but there was ice on the dish late in the day. I think a physical filter is needed to separate some of these narrow, close spaced TPs, especially on 7E. Both Gilats (bands B & D) give a total system noise figure of 2-2.5dB (inc feed, dish etc) so could be better.

21.536 H is a channel ID: called EMIREM, not very strong with me.

.. If you can Graham, can you check if you can still resolve the radio station "Immaculee.Conception" .... 21.564 SR 128 @ 3/4. There's absolutely no sign of it here.

I have to remove the electronics over night. It's there now but many signals are ~1dB down and the dish waving in the wind doesn't help. It takes a while to lock and sometimes a couple of tries. BTW, I think that Alpha Blondy FM is on 21548.0 not 21548.2 as per Lyngsat.

Ok thanks, I'm just in the process of moving the test dish outside to look at 16°East with the modded Gilat/feed. It's a bit breezy here but they recon it's going to get really windy tomorrow, at least the temparature has risen nicely.
Will report back soon.

... Firstly thanks go to s-band Graham for initial links to surplus Band D Gilat Ka bits and bobs and for planting the seed to experiment with the Gilat compared to the Inverto Ka/Ku Band D lnbf.
At the start of the test dish set-up at around 11.15 am it was quite breezy and the ability to hold a CM 1.2 on the 16°East satellite plus try to hold an iPhone and take pictures was very difficult but managed to get some very favourable results and makes it worth progressing to the next stage of waterproofing it and installing it on the 1.25 dedicated Ka band Gibby.
Just a few pics to show the analyser plots ... the modded Gilat signals are from a CM 1.2 test dish at ground level and the plots from the Inverto lnbf are off the 1.25 Gibby dedicated Ka band rig.

Good job, John. I found that the unmodified Gilat body (i.e. the rotation section left in place) was better when not using a WR42 waveguide. Here's the set-up used for posts 46 & 49.

Unusually for Crazyscan, Radio Immac at SR 127 was found during scanning, although I needed to enter the correct SR in the constellation box to lock it.

TBS 6983, XMW LNB, Triax 88.

I've never seen it in a scan and, until now, nothing I could do would lock it using Crazyscan. Finally after about the 5th try, it locked:

What type of receiver /dish is needed to receive the 20 000+ frequencies?

Barcelona region is not in the strongest part of the downlink signal from either 7°East or 16°East so i would say that if you were to use an Inverto Ka/Ku lnbf to get the Band D Ka programmes you would need a dish size in the region of 1.3m - 1.5m with the Inverto located at the focus to get worthwhile reception of the channels that are available. A good sensitive tuner is helpful as well, Myself and forum member Scopus are trialing the Openbox S3 Mini HD at the moment for Ka band reception. We find that it has a sensitive tuner, allows the correct lnbf LO to be input and it scans it correctly and quickly and is cost effective. TBS 6903 / 6983 pc cards are also very good when used with programs such as EBSPro and CrazyScan as they offer far more control of what you can receive, and i use them as well. Be warned though .... Ka reception can be a tricky beast to master and needs accurate attention to set-up installation detail lol.

Thank you very much for your answer...
i am in carcassonne near toulouse, not in the barcelona null
i get good signals from the 16°E Ku band, romania slovenia albania(the new albaniaHD weaker but very watchable)

But how do you use TBS 6903 / 6983 pc cards? is that a usb device you plug in... into the Crazyscan prog?
i m a bit lost/Would the Octagon receive such signals?
Haopy new year from Carcassonne Languedoc(now Occitania)

Have installed the Gilat on the 1.25 Gibby / lnb changer, tweeked a little bit fro the test dish readings. Basically it's working quite well Graham, iv'e still got the thick feed cap on which is loosing me 1/2dB but the results are quite good. Iv'e been documenting some scans between the Inverto Standard lnbf, a Inverto with a Band B scalar feed with clear cap on and then this Gilat with Band D scalar but with thick feed cap on. I'll compose the plots asap and re-post.

As per post #56 >Ka reception can be a tricky beast to master and needs accurate attention to set-up installation detail<
Google is your freind for TBS 6903/6983 information to read up on and also for EBSPro & CrazyScan pc programs.
Octogon ? .... if you mean the receiver, the SX88 will scan Ka band when the right values have been input.
An Inverto Ka/Ku lnbf, if you can find one, is the easiest option for you, it also gives you Ku reception as well, so if it is mounted at the focus position on the 1.3 dish you will have the benefits of Band D Ka & Ku reception. Feed the two outputs of the Inverto Ka/Ku into a diseqc switch located at the dish end and then use your receiver set-up menu to view what band you want to watch.
