Currently have a bog standard sky installation here in Germany (using a grundig box; 85cm dual LNB dish). The box is showing its age and am considering upgrading to SKY+ or HD. I would source the box from e-bay and then get the SKY+ features switched on. From reading the threads here I see I would probably have to link it to the 'phone system for the 1st install. Its a bit of a pain but not an insurmountable problem as I am often in the UK.

My only issue is that my subscription is through my parents in Scotland and I plan simply to go with my card and the new box to a friends house in London. Plug into his cables for the telephone and dish and then give sky a call. Would the fact that the caller ID for the box being different to the registered 'phone number be an issue for SKY when they are switching on the recording features, etc.?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

dont for get that if you change your standard box to a + or hd box you have to change your lnb on the dish as well to a twin feeder lnb
as a standard box only uses a single coax from dish to receiver
the other two require 2 coax runs from dish to receiver one coax for the channel you are watching and one coax from dish to receiver for the hard drive in side the receiver to enable you to record one channel whilst you watch an other

Just phone sky and tell them you have a new sky plus box, give them the version and serial number and they will switch it over. If they ask about it being connected to the phone tell them that the phone line is not working at the moment and give some rubbish reason(buliding works in house etc). Hide your caller ID if calling from abroad.
Thats all you need to do.
That said I´m assuming your box is not on your parents account as a multiroom box.

Good luck
