30/06/03 New EPG positioning for BBC One regions confirmed
SDO has exclusive details about BBC One's up and coming regional services that begin in July. We can reveal to you exclusively that your local version of both BBC One and Two will set as default on EPG 101 and 102 respectively. Other regions of BBC One will be available also on the EPG unlike ITV where manual tuning is required. Each region will be allocated an EPG number in the 900 band. The list is available here. Viewers in the Irish Republic will continue to get BBC One Northern Ireland on EPG 214 and BBC2 Northern Ireland on EPG 215. Other regions will have to be added manually. The Cambridge feed will be ready by the end of July. There is no known date for Channel Islands yet. Whichever region you get on EPG 101 or EPG 102, one BBC One channel and one BBC Two channel will be missing from your 900 list. Finally, 10.773, 10.803 are Horizontal polarisation.10.788, 10.818 and 10.847 are Vertical polarisation. BBC goes Free To Air from Thursday 10th July, with the regional BBC services being available from Tuesday 29th July.

Hi again,
after upgrating about 50-60 sky dishes for the BBCs and ITV(different sizes) i found out that the DH 2.7m with the quad lnbs work fine. That of course is on the limits. From the Meridian hotel all the way to akrotiri i use the 2.7 m.
From Paramali to Paphos and coral bay 2.7m DH (2.2 DB more than limassol)
Nicosia and Ayia Napa 3.4 to 3.7 meter.
For the 2.7m off set dishes i got a couple of feeds now that am testing!!

regards

My Satman told me these sizes were good for summer viewing, but would have problems in the winter (cloud coverage)

Very true...lets not forget these are the test results in clear summer weather.

Actually i found out that this is the worst time cause there is too much humidity. A couple of months ago when it was cooler the signal was 0.2-0.4db better.

Lager? Don't you mean Keo beer? :)

According to Titos of Titosat, both Limmasol and Nicosia need 3.3m dishes. Pafos gets away with 3.1m. FOR Ayia Napa a 3.7m will work better.

Fred

Spotted my typo...or a freuduian slip ;) In any case Keo is nice but there is a new addition now, "LEON" apparently dating back to 1937.

I`m still considering whether it is worth a) investing in a 3-4 metre dish  investing in more beer and sticking to the local subscription service LTV or c) waiting for digital TV through a phone line in September ;)

Cyta's ADSL Mivison http://www.mivision.cyta.com.cy/english/index.php

IMHO is not worth it. It's content is available now from 1m sources. The only "value added" part will be movies on demand.

That's interesting. Everyone seems to think that the TU-DSB35 is the same as the TU-DSB31 and has a crap tuner. I've just phoned around a few friends who kindly unscrewed their covers and read out what was printed on their tuner modules (they think I'm nuts) as follows:-

TU-DSB31

On top of tuner: 803 7A10C

On label:

TU-DSB31
20/08/01 B5
1707
___________________________

TU-DSB30

On top of tuner: 403C 7A02F

On label:

ENA67A02C3
04 03
Made in Japan
___________________________

TU-DSB-40

On top of tuner: 122 7A16B ? (not sure - well he's 82 and blind as a bat!)

Can't read label.

So now I'm very curious to know if your TU-DSB35 tuner module matches one of these or is different yet again?

Fred
I have checked my TUDSB 30 and 35.

TUDSB 30
ENC479R3
0908
Made in Slovakia
On top B9089R3

TUDSB 35
ENC479R3
1004
Made in Slovakia
On top B0039R30 (or3C0

I can see no visible differences between the tuners.

The 35 is much faster changing channels and holds the picture for longer when it starts to break up. It also reassembles the picture quicker than the 30.

Hi m8
Just been talking to Iceman, Im on my way to paphos from the Uk today, and have got a place in paphos, Ill give you a call when i get there m8, to see if you have time to call over to have a look at the site, I am only there till sunday, But I am returning on 30th july for 3 weeks, So would be lookin to have it fitted in that time frame, If the 2.7 will alllow me to pick up bbc and itv that is gr8 news, the only problem is , this is going to have to be mounted on my roof, will it be ok up there, and will it have to be screwed to my roof, as i dont fancy any leaks when it rains as i am not there a lot of the year :)
Best regards
Al

I'm now receiving BBC and ITV channels on a 2.4 mtr prime focus dish (make Famaval), Panasonic 30 decoder on a single LNB Invecom 0.3. I live in Peyia, Cyprus. Now operating for 24 hrs with a small amount of block out around 9.15pm for 45 minutes. Andreas at Shipshape organised it!

That would appear to back up what Longridge from Future electronics has stated, so a rise to 2.7 would probably cure the drop out.

Well over the recent weeks a general picture of what size dish is required at different locations on the Island has emerged. As you know I reside on the east side (Vrysoulles, Famagusta District) and at least 3.7m dish is required to pull in signals from 2D. Even if a smaller, say 2.7m, dish could be made to work with very careful alignment, skew, etc, the reception can vary because the satellites move postion slightly all the time which might have no effect in (say) UK but has a drop-out effect in fringe-areas such as Cyprus. Anyway even a 2.7m dish is expensive here.
I have decided to build my own prime-focus 4m dish, but would appreciate any advice on the best LNB to use.

We began with a single 0.3 Invacom LNB, slight drop out between 9-10pm experienced but not enough to disturb viewing. This was replaced with a quad of the same make and a notable improvement was seen. Now I get the beeb on my other decoder, a very old Grundig, albeit a more disturbed picture from 7.30pm- 10.30 pm. The installer tells me that the reading from the dish is 8.5-8.6, and he needs a minimum of 7.4 to get a stable picture- whatever that means! He also tells me that the further east he goes, the worse the reception. Best of luck

If you change your lnb to a twin invacom it will cure the problem, no need to upgrade your dish.

I would add that there are some self appointed experts in the Paphos area who try to focus the dish manually(right a bit, down a bit etc). It doesn't work in a fringe area! No replacement for a decent meter.

Totally agree with you. I have had to dump my old digital meter and spend 1500 quid on a decent one. Since I am sticking these dishes up at a rate of four a week its a sound investment.

For around £500 or so the satlook NIT is a good alternative, and its light enough to carry up a ladder

I agree with you. That's what I've been using for the last 6 months but it has its limitations

Didn't think that the NIT had been out for that long Frassle, are you sure it's the NIT

I think Satlook Digital meter has been out for over six months M8....
Before i bought my UNAOHM (begining of this year) i did inquiries into Satlooks specs & prices also.
That is unless they had a previous digital model other than NIT.
