Only got about 15 minutes to assemble after it arrived ..
Too close to opening time at my shop..
But I did get to try one of the UHD clips via usb stick before I had to go ..
Absolutely freaking amazing is the only way I can describe what I saw..
I'll be able to tinker some more this evening.
;)

My next purchase may well be a 4k Xbox 1 ..as this apparently will play UHD Bluray ?
Anyone gone down this route ?
..and how much more expensive are the retail discs ?

Ok ...just tried a youtube 3D demo ...and actually found it acceptable ..
ie not too nauseating.
I'm still having trouble getting my eyes to adjust having taken off the 3D glasses..
But having seen and worked on 3D Tvs before ..this one I can stand for short periods.
possibly the headache is just delayed..we shall see.
lol

Trying a scheduled recording next ...from Film4 (The Purge)..via usb3 to a spare 1tb drive I recently retrofitted into a seagate backup drive unit ..having already stolen the original 5tb sata drive for the ICYbox 20tb cold store.
Hopefully it will work ok ...and basically give me a TV pvr ..sort-of
;)

So ..the recording process worked just fine ..
I unplugged the seagate to take a look on the PC ..
No surprises ..a non standard proprietory format was used ..which presumably will only play back on the TV ..
Shame that..

This morning I registered with LG for my 5 year warranty ..
easily done with a 3 minute phone call.

The TV just completed a Firmware/WEBOS update ...
which I guess proves they are actively monitoring for faults and complications.

So far I'm seriously impressed by this TV ..
UHD images ..superb
3D images ..impressive though for me a bit nauseating (it'll never catch on LOL)
Sound quality is very very acceptable for such small ..thin ..integrated speakers..
Great for normal use..but will never replace my surround sound system ..when watching a move.
Unlike some Panny plasmas I've tried ..with such poor sound ..and needed external speakers or soundbar..
..This TV does not..

I guess the only complaint I have so far is...
it's silver ..I guess that's the fashion ..
I'd have much prefered 'piano black'

I bought a 40" Samsung 4K smart TV.
Samsung UE40KU6000 40" Smart 4K Ultra HD with HDR TV - Black

It was bought as a spare room TV, I'm that impressed with it I think I might need to buy its bigger brother for the living room!
Although the one I currently have in the living room is only about 18 months old

As I didn't have any 4K media I watched a few 4K youtube videos on it, they looked stunning.
Sadly its main use is for the PS4. and also has the CCTV DVR plugged into it.

The newer PS4 Pro is 4K, however mine isn't :/

Evan, are your Windows folder options set so that you can see the file extensions?

Also, if you have media player software (VLC, etc) installed just try double clicking on the larger files, it may just work.

I'll take another look ..but from memory ..no large file ..just a long list of small ones..?

When I said large file* I meant the ones of from 13MB to 20MB odd, rather than the 71KB ones.

Just noticed the small ones all end in IDX, almost as if that could be a suffix to show that they are indices.

* I realise that with your server farm that these are not large in your world.

Something I really dont like about this TV ..
There had to be a minus I suppose.
Channel scanning is either / or ..
That is ..you can scan using the TV antenna ...OR using a dish via the sat input ....not both..
I can only assume there is limited space in memory for channel storage so 2 seperate channel lists cannot co-exist ..
This was never an issue on my dual tuner (aerial/sat) on the Panny plasma..
Also ...when scanning using the sat input there is only Astra 28.2 in the list ...which presumably would be changed with a different sat via firmware ...depending on you global location.
This would never be an issue if you simply want to watch TV ...but really sux big time IF you want to think outside the SLY box.
a proper pita imo.
They are treating users like helpless morons.
So ..I guess I'll have to think about feeding external Sat signals via a suitable set top box ..via hdmi.
So...Which sat receivers are capable of recieving UHD muxes ..and can output the high data stream via hdmi ?

The LG doesn't have this issue.

Advice Needed - OCTAGON SF4008
If this is true ..then perhaps I need more help ..and certainly a better manual than the 6 page affair that came with the TV ..as this is counter intuitive in the extreme.
??
How for example can one add more sats to scan in LGs sat menu ?
and how can I scan just one selected transponder ?

There is a secondary sat setup (none freesat) for multi sat on my LG. It took me a few attempts to find it. The missus is using the tv atm but if you cant find it post & I'll jot down the route later.

If you have a magic remote talk to it just say manual scan and it should take you to the setting

So ..as yet I have not enabled or agreed to voice command activation on this TV ..
Certain commands do respond to voice if I pull the network cable ...but this ceases once it is plugged back in ...
..when I re-try voice command it refuses to respond promting me to 'activate' this function first ..
So ..it _can_ work without signing up ...so why are they insisting the set be connected via network ..if not for data collection ????????
I am then presented with a privacy document which I have to agree to before I can use it.
I will confess to being a bit anxious about agreeing to something like this as it opens all sorts of possibilities for big brother snooping.
I'd like to try it ...but my questions are twofold..
Is it safe ?
(memories of ' Marathon Man ' here...with shades of '1984')
Can this feature be turned off easily ..IF I decided to temporarily activate it ?
Nosey Bstds ...!!!!

I guess you could always pull the batteries when not in use ..but from what I've read ..
once registered ..you have given them permission to bombard you with shyte..
in other words ..you spend a huge sum of money buying this TV only to give them permission to snoop and get you to spend even more..
