my old 5620 is now sitting almost redundant in the downstairs backroom! it has seem bigger and better receivers go flying past him as he ages, but every time i switch it on it never misses a beat!

its never been reset in ages, no lock ups nothing! even tho it is ageing and arcaic i thouhgt id sing its praises as no 1 posts on here any more
and only being slightly warm above the psu!

anyway my rant over and hope many enjoy using their old 5620's for many a year!!!!

and happy new yr to :-hny

Hey Dude, happy new year to you as well!

I think the reason that not too many new posts are written here is that these boxes simply work faultlessly now. I use Gemini images, and other than the odd reboot it does not need a lot of attention (That's why I got the qboxhd to play with).

I use mine every day, the kids know how to use it, it moves the motor, does the CS, it's great. The only downside is that the picture quality is not as good as my qbox, but that is down to the scart vs. HDMI. It is definitely a Linux receiver which is wife and kid approved, and most of you know how much of a compliment that can be ;)

All in all, the 5620 proved to be an excellent buy, and I would still recommend it to someone who needs a cheap and cheerful basic dreambox.

I spent about a year trying to find a DM5600 or a DM5620 , and gave up in the end :-crying

I managed to find quite a few on ebay.de but everytime the seller pointblankly refused to send it to the UK which was a huge disapointment :(

I've never actually seen one in the flesh so to speak but it always looked quite a chunky box, which is what i like, hence the receivers i already have :D

The only exception to the rule is the little Clone DM500s which arrived today, which will be used as a back up for the other 3 receivers.

I found it quite amusing that it looks like a DM600 and is running Gemini 4.70 :-lmao

It would have been nice to have one of the old units, but to be honest i've just stopped looking for one now :toke:

You never know though, I may still buy one if it comes at the right price, although in all hoesty i have my mind set on getting a 7025 next :D

The HD DM boxes just don't interest me :-yawn

hahah well i wouldnt go that far looking for 1!

i only got it originally because it was cheap and an entry level box.

originally used it just to get 0.8 digitv not realising what it could be used for lol

now adays ull get more bang for ur buck with others, : o /

but i think due to the shear size of the thing it will keep cooler and thus prob outlast my 800 hands down!

yea the picture aint perfection, but its not that bad using the rgb output on scart!

well 1 day it might go in the loft with my betamax , v2000 and ced player lolol

happy new yr all :)

I like old technology, this is why i was looking for a 5620.

I also like the look of it, Its square and chunky, not horrible and rounded off like everything electrical these days.

I'd still be using my old Sanyo Betamax VCR if the reel motor hadn't packed up. It awas the only part that was not readily available anymore )(-red

I can honestly say for enjoyment factor the best receiver i ever had was my old Technomate TMS-1500. It was great when you could open up TPS, Digital+, Premiere and TV Cabo without having to CS :D

Those were the days

Hello guys,

It's good to read nice things about the good old 5620. Mine died two years ago, a big spark killed the flash. Now I am thinking about replacing the motherboard and bringing it back to life. It would be a second tuner with the 800.
The only flaw of the 5620 is the bad sensitivity for the low SR channels.

Happy New Year to everyone here!

Yes, tuner is crap. I use my 5620 mainly as a server for ccam, and do all the viewing with the qboxhd, which has a far more sensitive tuner. But, it is also good to have the old box as a backup.
