Hi,
I just put an LNB up on 5W. Signal is fair. I get all a good 100 encrypted channels or so, and lots of radio stations, but am missing any FTA channels. Last time I had 5W I got FTA Italian channels, and France 3/4/5/O etc.

I see France3 is FTA on the Transalpine beam which puts me on the edge, but covered, according to Lyngsat:- France 3 - LyngSat
Satexpat beam info:- Réception satellite Eutelsat 5 West B - Zones de couverture

Where did they go to?

Dish: Wavefrontier T55.
LNB: Sharp
Location: Brussels, Belgium.
Receiver: builtin DVB-S2 receiver in TV from Philips 24PFS5303/12 ( manual is https://www.p4c.philips.com/files/2/24pft5303_12/24pft5303_12_dfu_eng.pdf )

Those channels are 'multistream' and it is unlikely your television can decode that kind of transmission. A multistream receiver like the Octagon SX89 can display these channels. If you buy such a receiver make sure it can decode Dolby Digital+ otherwise you'll have no sound on some of the French channels.

Is this the new DVB-S2X standard?

Not surprisingly given my old TV. If the new TVs (LG or Philips) don't have this multistrean then I can buy a CI+ module and get a card.

They aren't DVB-S2X, they are there to feed terrestrial transmitters and aren't intended for domestic reception so it is unlikely a television will be setup to receive them.

Dreamboxes are complicated and overkill for basic television reception. The Octagon you linked to will be able to open the unencrypted 5°W multistream channels.

Are Dreamboxes that overkill? They seemed quite easy to operate from the videos.

Quite a few people on here find Enigma 2 based receivers like Dreamboxes to be complex and frustrating to use whereas others swear by them.

Also worth bearing in mind that the "multistream" channels are transmitted with a modulation & FEC level (DVB-S2 8PSK & FEC 8/9 IIRC) that requires a higher SNR receive level compared to the encrypted Fransat channels, meaning a stronger received signal is required to be able to watch them compared to that which might be good enough for Fransat.

You need a 100 cm dish ( or 110 cm ) and Edision Mio + 4K for the RTBF ( La Une, Tipik ...) in HD , channel 42 DVB-T2
plus the french & italian multistream channels from 5°W
Voilà Sophie

Confused because I linked to a Octagon SX89, which you wrote earlier:

Can the SX89 you referred to do multistream, or not?

Hi,

I already have RTBF on DVBT. I always used it. I used to have Èen canvas ketnet until VRT decided to pull the plug on FTA transmissions.

I love your setup.
Do you mean 110cm for the mutlistream feeds?
Where are you located?

I'm confused where the confusion is coming from but yes it can

Thanks for confirming.
The confusion comes from when you writing that the SX89 will work, then me posting a link to an SX89, and then you writing that my link to an SX89 won't work. And now you say it will. Hence my confusion:cool:

Why won't the SX89 link I posted work? Is there something specific in the specs I should be looking for?

My apologies: I've got a cold, and a temperature.

I misread your 1st reply.

I'm not confused anymore.

Hi,

I already have RTBF on DVBT.

Where are you located?

In 60 days you will need a DVB-T2 receiver for the same RTBF.
At 200 km from Bxl in the small town of Arlon.
