Something strange has happend!

Last 2 days - 12pm-4pm signal so low 40% and picture breaking every second.

Today... right now 53% signal, on both my technomate and my admc boxes!

No picture breakup!

Whats more strange, we have had thunder storms here, heavy rain... it has cleared now but very cloudy!

Im baffled! but means when my 2.5m comes i can hope for atleast 65% signal!

I don't know about that. The way I see it is if you are at the pixelisation threshold with a 1.8m dish you will be good to go with the 2.4m with a bit of margin. If you are below the pixelisation threshold with a 1.8m what will happen with the 2.4m is anyboby's guess.

I have no idea how it all works in terms of bigger dish better quality etc... Even a 5% increase will make me happy... that would see me 55-60% signal.

Last year i lived off showtime and 45-50% signal

Gary, those percentage figures are relevant to the receiver. They are different for every receiver (no standard). Also you can forget anything to do with Showtime. Showtime was broadcast in SD from DVB-S transponders. Abu Dhabi is in HD from DVB-S2 transponders. This means carrier to noise requirements are completely different. Like I said above, if you are at the pixelisation threshold with the 1.8 it should work fine with the 2.4.

Also look into puting new coax cable in if you already havent and if possible making the run as short as possible all the little things may give you a couple of % more.

Hmmmm,

I will stick with 26E, my 1.8M is ok for signal, my 2.5M should be good!

After I am setup on 26E i have had enough LOL no more moving dishes

I rather suspect you are wrong there but until 201 goes into service it all guesswork

It's a big guessing game and it's hard to know who to believe especially when some people's opinions seem to turn into the "facts"[1] of tomorrow. I thought 201 was to replace AB4A but acording to the launch blog it looks like 201 replaces 101 and AB4A will be replaced by AB7.

Looking at it from another angle though, if the intended audience includes Morroco and Algeria a change to Nilesat would be necessary as AB4A is difficult to impossible to receive there with a regular size satellite aerial.

[1] Last week it was someone posting a load of nonsense frequencies for Badr5 transponders. All was quickly posted on Flysat and other copycat sites. Later it turned out they had the LO set wrong and were just known Badr4 transponders.
