I just bought a new actuator 36inch to change the very old one. My dish is probably a 2.40 Aris or Famaval
as i noticed it has small holes at the edge for possible extension. My question is which sats to install from west
to east for the dish to be stable and not risky. For example it would be better from 30w to 42e or lets say from
15w to 52e ? thanks in advance!

Hi, risky would be on the edges of the arc, right? What is your central satellite?
30w to 42e = 72 degree span
15w to 52e = 67 degree span

30W to 52E would be less than 90 rotational degrees for latitudes above 51 degree. So why wouldn't you take the whole range?

Where/What is your location "GR"?
(edit: Is it Greece, maybe? I changed my location from "NL" to "The Netherlands", just now, just to be perfectly clear to other members.)

South East of Greece near Turkey. Just wanted to know your opinion. I am doing that mostly for the feeds but i
would like to hear opinions about all sats before the dish permanent motorised installation from the technician.
I am thinking of doing 30 west - 42 east ... or 52 east for persiana sports free to air. Currently the dish is almost 7e
but i cannot say if it is exactly central satellite ... i think so...

If 23.5e is correct for central satellite, then 53.5 degrees west travel, so you can go east the same, total arc span 107 degrees.

So i understand that 30w-52e should be a safe thing to follow. Thank you all for advice.
I will check with the technician which satellite is the central.

For a motorized dish install, you have to align to your true south (geographical postion) for correct tracking of the arc.

The closet satellite to your location, is your central position for the motorized install.

Normally I'd say an actuator setup could easily manage 120 rotational degrees, maybe up to even 140 or 150 degrees, for 'normal' setups. But I've no practical experience with an actuator setup, myself, practical data about this I leave to others.

Visible range (above horizon) southeast greece is about 53W to 104E, 170 rotational degrees. You'd have to check the actual line of sight near horizon at your own location.

Then determine what the "lowest" satellite is that you want to receive (east or west). Put the actuator at that side of the dish, and see to it that that lowest satellite has the lowest possible extensions of the actuator (by mounting extra L-brackets or so). That'll give you widest range along the arc, with least chance of 'flopping' or whatever it is called, at the extended side of the actuator.

When you want to have a rotational range near 170 degrees, I'd recommend you build a custom made bracket that holds the actuator to the mount: that setup will reduce the chance of flopping. It is described here at the forum.

I hope this is all somewhat understandable for you,

Btw, i only have experience with 1.20 dish and 18" actuator. My arc span is 116 degrees due to mount design.

Try to identify the dish , a documented itemised receipt from your earlier installer may assist your current installer.

And you never thought about changing the mount design, to increase the range/arc span?

No, i haven't thought about it. I have seen with existing mount a 10 degree increase, but with the OP150S dish.

Here is a video i found, but i don't understand exactly what has been done.

Maybe he has added the extended bracket/plate at the top of the actuator, and the bracket at the bottom of the actuator (not L-shaped, but J-shaped)?

However, problem of this mount seems to be that the dish elevation-adjustment brackets touch the mount (collide with it), and then cannot go further. See at about 3 minutes, in the movie; at the extended side. But it is also at the retracted side, of course.
So that limits the possible range. Not an easy thing to fix?

Apart from that he says he has a 24 inch actuator, if I understand him correctly.

Transleted text from the comment section.

To be precise, you can further increase the travel by installing the Qarl 3624.
To do this the modification is much more demanding, you need to use longer and more robust brackets.
Then you need to move the two bolts further down as highlighted in the video, we notice that the two sides of the polar touch.

Precisely why I closed the thread a couple of days ago, but it has since been unlocked without response from the o/p.

I guess he is now consulting his local technician:

When there are remaining questions, I've no doubt he will come back....

Greetz,

The technician was taking a picture of the outdoor equipment last time they were on site,
