As expected the range out to NW round to SW is pretty pathetic due to the hills, the dormer windows of the cottage & the trees , but the NE to SE arent bad at all despite the hills across the other side of the valley.

One days data, the circles are at 20km intervals

Pink - above 30000ft
Blue - 20000 to 30000ft
Green - 10000 to 20000ft

A few months back I heard a helicopter overhead so I quickly put the whip on the window sill to see if I could get it. I didn't but to my surprise I got regular traffic. Not much but they were pretty far away. So, for testing software, a whip might be enough. Sorry for lack of details, I don't even remember what software I used. Probably ADSBsharp or something.

One or Two odd spikes on mine ...but it has been running 24/7 for several weeks ...
The height of the antenna during this time has been raised and dropped according to weather (wind specifically)


My range to the north is greatly impeded by my house at low elevations ...and a sharp rise uphill toward Bolton ..

Any volunteers to shift the Penines ?

That spike out to the north east is very impressive! I havent been able to replicate my first long distance contact up by Aberdeen from the first nights testing which is a shame although I did get a semi lock on a big yankee KC10 tanker type thing this evening. The pics popped up but no definite map plot.

VS where did you get the operator logos from?

Does the pi method display the aircraft as well as feed the data to the net?

So I would be able to run the pi in to a monitor, and view the plains?

Cheers Llew - Shillouttes now working, waiting for another plane to come into range to see if the logos work too - it can take a while, I see VS has 50+ planes tracking at times - the most Ive seen is 3!

I get 90+ at certain times of the day, a lot of traffic to and from Europe coming over me to Stansted, Luton and Heathrow.

How do you and Evan get that display, the spikes etc?

Click on the menu gear wheel top left of the VRS web page. Then play with the receiver range settings. If you want the range circles they are in the options - map tab in the gear wheel

Got the range circles, but still not sure how to get the multicoloured spike effect as in post #63/65. Is it in the Aircraft menu?

Yes, been there, but how do you get it to load on to the map? Nothing doing here.
