This one is a bit of a surprise. Amos 5i is the elderly Asiasat2 (launched as far back as November 1995!) Asiasat 2 operated at 100.5E for many years, but has been pressed into service by Amos to get 17E up and running as soon as possible.
There are 3 paylods, a pan African C-band payload, and two Ku band regional coverage payloads which are expected to be put into use serving the Middle East and northern Africa.
Amos 5i will go into service at 17E in early 2010 and is due to be replaced by Amos 5 in mid 2011
