Thanks guys.

Well I spoke to my friend last night and he said that he was shown how to enter the codes but he never got round to do it as he couldn't find codes to unblock certain movie channels, so he moved on to another receiver :-( He is certain that you can unblock some channels with the af-1700 E but you just have to find the codes. He sent me an email with links to places that do codes but none of them work.

One thing that I found out is that the Arion is made in Korea but Ferguson makes an identical stb in Poland http://www.telstar.com.pl/index_en.php?id=2&type=a&item=6
Maybe I can find a patch under Ferguson....


I will look for the firmware Termanl AF-1700E and see how can improve my stb.

Hi again.

I managed to download the firmware (AF 1700E FTA POLSAT FIX S170E_$OZK_A6479_20050905_AUCPCnc.auc), I think it's an up to date version - my Turkish is Zero I don't know what this firmware improves my stb but I sure like to know.

It seems that AutoArioner converts the header of the firmware file automatially as I don't see any options to convert the header - please confirm.

Can the cable be any 9 pin serial cable (RS-232C) or does it have to be a special pin arrangemet?

While looking for information I came across "Arioner" anoher application software to upload the firmware to the STB. Can you comment on what software is better / more secure to do the uploading of firmware.

hi,

a few explication about autoarioner
you need a nullmodem cable male-female(9 pin subd cable),i think it will do what you have
AutoArioner - dedicated for upgrade firmware in Arion's tuners.
Auto select COM and set required header.
Description:
"File to send" - AUC firmware for tuner
"Scan" - Scan for listening and transmission
STATUS:
GRAY - port not exist
RED - port is busy
PINK - sending data
YELLOW - listening confirmation
GREEN - port ready to use
BLUE - error - close all application and try again
Progress bar:
Blue - load status
Red - estimate flash status
For new tuner use key:74620 in standby for detect header.

1.put your receiver in standby mode
2.start autoarioner
3.chose file to send
4.to detect the header of your receiver use remote control by pressing 74620
then you will see your type,ver,model
if not restart autoarioner again
5.then off and on again the receiver by the rear switch
and wait till shows "upgrade complet"
to active the emu(scrambled chanells):
menu-------19370-------2486
then goto games you will see "edit keys"

because autoarioner is easy
otherwise you need 2 programme to work with it:
a.you need auc-heditv 095 to change the header (to make it compatible for your receiver)an then save the file
b.you need arioner 0.24 to upload your firmware

look first what bootversion you have if you have boot 16.01 or more then you need only autoarioner
but if you have a bootversion less (older)then 16.01 then you need to upgrade the bootversion with arioner 0.24 and you need allso auc-heditv 095 to convert the bootfile for your receiver

Great point, I'm glad I asked before I went ahead.

The infor for my stb is:
The SW version is $SPHA333SS170EC
Database version is 00600009
Boot version is 0011.1

So, I downloaded the two peograms you mentioned AUC_HEditv095.exe and Arioner024_PL.exe

The $64000 question is: Where do I find a boot version that is newer than 16.1? Most of the places you get these firmware from, are either in Turkish, Polish or Russian and I don't understand a word of those languages. Although I can get Russian translated, but for the other two I always get a feeling that I don't know I have the correct file ;)


I have done a fair amount of reading on the matter and it seems that people that get into trouble with upgrading their stb do not take enough precautions. Could you comment on any DO NOTs and DOs and the safest way to go about upgrading a stb? Can you back up your firmware before loading up the new file?

You mentioned something regarding games and changing keys in one of your posts. It might be a silly question but am I getting new games with a newer firmware? I'm not into games really, I just want to view more channels in Spanish or English from the hotbird satellite. My friend can watch some film channels with his new stb and I quite like that, I think he gets multivision channels, if that means anyhing to you!

Can I just thank you again for taking the trouble to educate me on this subject, I truly appreciate your kindness.

I tried the link that you gave me but it tells me that either the site is unavailable or the site does not exist. I'll have to try later on again and see if I get lucky


I downloaded AUC_HEditv095 as opposed to AUC_HEditv094. I don't think this would make much difference, would it?

I followed the other link and downloaded the file TERMAL S170E_OZK_A5272_BUCPCn.zip

I couldn't find a RS232 cable today but this weekend I should be able to get hold of one. However, I opened the file with AUC_HEditv095 and I noticed that there wasn't any AUC info but since this is an .BUC file perhaps it is expected.

Do you know what's the difference between an AUC and a BUC file?

OK, I got myself a nullmodem rs232c female to female cable. I hope this is the right cable... is there a way I could test it?

Before I do anything, is it possible to backup the current firmware?

What should I expect after uploading the new firmware? Will my channel selection and preferences be removed?

Later on today I will try to do the first part of the process, using the header editor. I'll report back with results :-)

u can use ariter2 to keep your channels preference and this is how it work:
To use Ariter2, please follow steps as below
I. Receiving Data from Receiver to PC
1. connect PC and Receiver with RS232c cable
2. Turn off power and keep the receiver in standby
3. Press Blue Arrow button on Ariter program
4. Then, press “74621” on Remote Control to the receiver
5, It starts receiving data from the receiver to PC
6. After completing receiving the data, it is opened
II. Sending Data from PC to Receiver
1. Connect PC and Receiver with RS232c cable
2. Turn off power and keep the receiver in stand-by mode
3. Press Red Arrow button on Ariter program when it opens Data file
4. Then, press "24680" on Remote Control to the receiver
5. It starts sending Data to the receiver

u can use AUC_HEditv094 or AUC_HEditv095 to back up your firmware

Unfortunatelly, my wife was watching a program so I couldn't get to the stb, I'll see how I get on today.

I downloaded Ariter2 and Ariter18 which looks a little better but I don't kmow if it is good for the job.

Can I ask what kind of channels you get access to after you patch the stb?
