ARTE plans UHD broadcast from 2021
The European cultural channel ARTE also plans to launch in the UHD TV ( Ultra HD ) quality level from 2021. This is clear from the Commission's 22nd report on the assessment of the financial needs of broadcasters (KEF), published on 20 February.
According to the KEF, the costs of satellite broadcasting reported by the broadcaster to the Commission also include the cost of broadcasting at the SD quality level, which the Commission is required to end in 2020. However, since ARTE, in cooperation with ARTE G.E.I.E., plans to launch broadcasts in the UHDTV (Ultra High Definition TeleVision) quality level from 2021, the Commission did not reduce the cost of satellite broadcasting, according to the 22nd KEF report.
Following the announcement of the discontinuation of the community programs of the ARD in SD image resolution on Astra by January 2021,ARTE also wants to end the satellite distribution of signals in conventional SD quality(InfoDigital reported). However, it is unclear whether a stand-alone ARTE UHD channel will be switched on to satellite with the switch-off of the Transmitter's SD signals via satellite from 2021. But one thing is already clear: "The viewers can look forward to UHD HDR in the future."
