when do you think they are gonna use Pan European-2 and which services?

Your guess is as good as ours in any predictions.

But possibly never whilst 1N is at 28E. If it is it certainly wont be for any of the PSB type channels.

In Krakow, after little dish tune-up, both polarizations receivable. H seems to be now stronger than V, which used to be very stong once.

I'm watching The Mummy on ITV2+1 at the moment... is anybody else seeing some pretty strong artefacts on that channel (especially during high-action scenes)? I've never really watched ITV2+1, but could it be that there are general signal quality problems since the move to 1N?

I've been having the same issues with Channel 5, 5*, and 5 US... since they switched to 1N, the encoding quality has been p*ss poor...

can't be bitrates alone, when I look at the stream info menu on my receiver, the video bitrate on ITV2+1 (at least right at this moment) is somewhere between 1.8 and 6.0something Mbit/s. Must be the encoding process... or maybe signal interference or something...

ITV2 +1 is stat muxed, - I had the bit rate viewer running on it earlier the bit rate was jumping around between 800 & more than 3000 kbps. Might just be old generation encoders.

that's what I think. I used to fiddle around a lot with MPEG encoders on my computer in the heyday of DVD to DivX/Xvid conversion... you can encode/transcode video files so they have high nominal bitrates, but then when you look at the actual video, it's blocks and artefacts everywhere. Most of that is due to constant (single-pass) bitrate encoding, but if you get the settings wrong or use older codec versions, it also happens with variable bitrate (multipass) encoding, which is sort of the equivalent to VBR MPEG-2 video via DVB-S.

On-the-fly VBR MPEG-2 encoding for DVB is no mean feat anyway... you need somewhat powerful hardware to pull that off without unreasonable time delay... which costs money... which would explain why they maybe use older gear to encode a "+1" channel which few people even watch in the first place...

Interesting facts with the new UK spot beam because I don't get any signal whatsoever here! Although I only have a 1,5 m dish in central Sthlm.
I've better reception in Härjedalen (northern province near Norwegian border) with the same sized dish but that was before the switchover.
Next step up on the roof adjusting, BBC4 invaluable channel not available elsewhere.

All 1N channels lost at 1108 this morning, still a good signal on BBC radio on other satellites. Same for everyone?

Early season Solar Outage to blame for that. Expect the same tomorrow and to a lesser extent throughout the rest of the week.

I have a holiday home in Moraira and get my TDT from Cumbre del Sol, Benitachell.

Are you saying that a satellite dish pointed towards Cumbre del Sol could be jammed at these frequencies?

If so how many degrees would the dish need to be move so there wouldn’t be a problem?

welshman234, didn't know how to message you directly. I live not a million miles away in Montabaur (the yellow castle on the ICE line to Koeln). I need to get my self set up with UK TV. Unfortunately i also live in a listed building so my installation will need to be well disguised on the balcony, probably a clear dish. IPTV isn't really an option here either with 3MB broadband in the sticks. I just wanted to ask about the technicals of your installation and the success you are getting with the change over to 1N. Hope you don't mind the question, but as you live just down the road so to speak i thought you might be able to impart some advice before i get stuck in thanks M

As a new member you cant at the moment. This is because we had a spate of spammers misusing the pm system a while back.

Dont be offended - its purely a security measure to protect our members.

3MB Broadband?

If you think that's slow, come back to blighty and experience my 1MB connection .............. and it has only achieved that in the last few weeks having been 720kbps before that.

That's why I'm connected to cable Internet with the lowest speed possible being 25 Mbps :D. I believe here the minimum for IP (ADSL) is 8 Mbps.

Your internet speeds over there is the same both ways isnt it? I.E. you pay €25 a month (just a guess) and get 25Mbps download and 25Mbps upload too? (just a wild example lol)

Last time I was over there we stayed in the Qbic Hotel in South Amsterdam right outside Amsterdam Zuid rail station and they offered free wifi and their upload speed was 2.59Mbps yet the download speed was only 1.9Mbps lolol I was ammazed haha

I was however told that your government, hats off to them, subsidise the internet heavily so that it is cheaper for the end user and also one of the best/fastest in the EU
