what freuqncy plan ?
?

They dont need a frequency plan - thes new birds can cover all the SES frequencies as required.

I superimposed the UK spot at the 55dBW edge over the pan European beam and they are similar but not a perfect match, especially to the north east, but close. I wouldn't say it's back to 2D coverage though, certainly not for those in the east anyway.
Well done you have a knack for this..I remember you superimposing 1K on the UK a while ago..causing so much stress amongst some who thought it was real!!!!!!!!! This is real I reckon Im looking at about a 1.5 m dish

For me the most interesting thing is that there are only two beams and that they overlap. Looks like no fringe problems caused by frequency re-use over several spot beams then.

well look at the "Pan Euro " beam.... it avoids Scandinavia, guess why ;) BBC programmes are very popular there compared to other European countries, so they want to make sure people subscribe to the Pay services to get them. And obviously BSkyB do not want to loose coverage outside the UK especially in Spain / Portugal ;)

Also the document linked to above specifically mentions the UK coverage so there wouldnt be any need to have details of other beams in that particular document.

It is disappointing for Middle East and most of Eastern Europe countries for this satalitte.

Did you seriously expect anything else? This has been on the cards for YEARS. For 2 main reasons

1) Rights issues - the UK broadcasters want coverage restricted so they can transmit fta in English. If they cover more of Europe they have to pay more

2) Spectrum is very scarce in the skies above Europe and the best way of increasing coverage is to start doubling up orbital slots to serve more areas. To do this they have to restrict some coverage areas down.

Sadly its only going to get worse in the next few years.

BTW if you think this is bad have a look at the Ka beams available on 9E - 82 spotbeams each covering no more than a few hundred miles!

What I find interesting is why the pan Euro 47dBW bulge covering Poland almost perfectly, and what's so important in southern Italy to need a bit of extra signal down there too (49dBW)? Did someone in Italy pay SES more than someone in Poland? ;)

Also, why so much wasted signal flooding the Atlantic towards Greenland?

Well.. on German forums people already discuss it too.. the signal strength for UK is very strong as usual.. considering 45cm dishes are somewhat popular. Again like Astra 1N they only seem to release the footprint for small dishes while it remains unknown on how strong it will be outside these areas.. 1N however is a bit of a warning.. 1N seems to have a strong fall-off to the east.. if 2F copies that..

Well.. I'll see: I am living south of Frankfurt right now.. all I can do is: Wait!

hello to all,
as much as people don't like sky uk.i would say it is as close to usa tv as you are going to find in eurpoe.
most of the programs are days and even weeks behind the usa shows.the italian counterpart is months and even years behind the usa.
the signal is fine here in naples and i hope it stays that way.

the 55dbW line seems wider than the official 2D map.of course any official map would never show how the signal works outside the UK,just look at the 1N map for example

I cannot set up a dish bigger than 2.40 on the roof. I wil try with it than let you know the result. I dont thing that I will be able to get 1N. if I get most of 2a, 2b and Eurobird 's TP I will happy.

By the way can anybody receive (does not need to lock) at least one frequency from 1N UK Beam in Turkey ?

In Thessaloniki 3m are on the very limit for getting most if not all but i also know that inside Greece the beam edge is very sharp.

I think that the European beam is developed in a way that these birds can be used on the 19.2 position as well. There's a Canary Islands beam that doesn't fit the islands completely on 28.2 but most likely it fits when located at 19.2 degrees East. I guess the lobe over Poland shifts to the Ukraine and the Italy lobe over Greece.
