Perhaps they should delay it until New Year so we can have a nice firework display...

Here's some more info:
http://www.spacenews.com/article/lau...ch-of-astra-2g

The interesting bit about the Luxembourg Governments proposed slot is that they may now loose this as 2G may not be lofted in time to secure it - another satellite may be used to take it's place and depending on the length of the delays 2G go straight to 28.2E after testing.

Astra 2G also includes a military X- and Ka-band payload that the Luxembourg government wanted to use to meet a regulatory deadline to preserve an unspecified orbital slot for a planned military telecommunications service. Astra 2G would be operated at that slot for the regulatory minimum of three months before moving to its intended commercial orbital position.

The Luxembourg government has said it must occupy the orbital position in question, which it did not disclose, by the end of the year or risk forfeiting its rights there.

Very interesting ! Maybe this was the case with 2E too and that explains that very long "test" period at 43.5°E - it wasnt just testing, they also were using it there for some military stuff. Must be very well paid stuff, to put payload on a 15 year life satellite for just 3 months...

That did cross my mind too when I heard about this and would explain the long delay.

Industry official: Proton on-pad problem today is electronic gyro that will be replaced, no more than 2-wk delay in launch of SES Astra 2G.

I assume this will have a knock on effect for Yamal 401 which was due to be launched on 12 December?

Any filings for the supposed forthcoming Luxy "Govsat" on that site?

It seems unlikely, the license expired in December 2013
